So far I've tried Mutter Paneer, Roti, Chicken Naan and Achari Chicken Tikka.
Rice was pretty good; I'd add a little salt though. Good rice is a place where a lot of Indian restaurants fall flat. Slightly more salt, slightly more water, and I'd have no complaint, but most places seem to serve it dry and bland. Sure, it's meant to be a relatively bland contrast to your spicy mains, but it should still be fresh, moist, fluffy, and have flavour.
The curry, though, was delectable. Beautifully intense flavour packed with ginger, pepper and cinnamon notes. Nice tart sweetness to the sauce. If I were to nitpick, it would be that I'd cook the peas longer, or thaw them before cooking; I'd sear the paneer to give it more flavour, and perhaps a tiny bit of cornstarch or lecithin would help emulsify the curry - most people actually love fatty food but when it separates, it is assigned the pejorative 'greasy' and is less appetising. Some emulsifying agent would help the sauce be silky and stable.
Everything from the tandoor here is excellent as they use a proper charcoal tandoor which you can smell when you walk in the door. Beautifully toasted roti and naan which I would hazard to guess are homemade.
The chicken naan was less 'stuffed' and more 'studded' with chicken pieces; I'd probably just go for a roti.
Achari chicken tikka was wonderful. Pieces of tandoor cooked chicken with a delicious tart pickled marinade which I highly recommend for those looking to break out of the standard curry-rice-naan box.
Food is above average, staff are lovely and welcoming. Chefs are proficient. Wait times may be high at dinner hour because it is a small kitchen. Dehli-cious qualifies as a properly authentic Indian restaurant to me. Not perfect but certainly worth...
Read morePassed through this place many times but never got to try it until recently on Uber Eats. I ordered Butter Chicken and Chicken Tikka Masala. The Chicken Tikka Masala was nicely done with the right mix of onions and tomatoes etc. and what I liked especially was it wasn't the typical curry sauce :) The Butter Chicken was okay but again it was sort of a curry sauce. Morever, I ordered HOT and they seemed to just mix a lot of chilli powder in, which turned it into a sweet and very spicy concoction,...
Read moreBest Indian takeaways in Wellington. We have been ordering from here for over 10 years and it never disappoints. We ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala which is rich, smokey and delicious. Vegetable samosa which are so flavourful and come with a sweet sauce. Channa Masala is a vegetarian dish and my husband loves it spicy. Highly recommend ordering the Raita sauce which is a sweet yoghurt sauce, it goes so well with the curry’s. Plus of course garlic naan which our child...
