Flåm stasjon — Local services in Aurland

I took the train from Bergen to Flam! It was one of the most scenic journeys i have ever taken. Make sure you figure out which side to sit and always choose a window seat! Its totally worth it. When coming from Bergen towards Flam, for the 1st hour, you have the best scenery on your left hand side. Sit forward facing. Then after Voss, the scenery shifts to the right hand side! Again sit forward facing. The NSB train stops at Myrdal and you have to take the green vintage looking train! Its very scenic on the right side, fwd facing! Taking the Flåmsbana train is the way to experience Flåm and have a glimpse of the beautiful Norway. This open air train station is clean and modern, albeit it is small. Free seating on the Flåmsbana train, better to board early if you want better seats. Best to choose the 1st seat near the door, that's where you can open the window for better photos (to avoid reflection). That said, you will need to close the window when the train entering tunnel. It does not matter which side to sit if you are taking return trip. Otherwise, from Flåm to Mydral, you can try sit on the right for better view. Impossible to get a ticket when cruise ships arrive. We were forced to buy an excursion tour. Tour groups probably bought out all the tickets.

We rode from Mydral to Flam. We were told either side will get good views. Not true. Sit on the left side traveling back down. We sat on the right side and saw mostly the mountain rocks, not the rive cravens next to the river. I guess it’s reverse if coming up.

Be sure to get off when the train stops. You’re see a “nymph” singing in the mountains for your entertainment. Remember to leave your backpack on your seat. We were lucky our neighbors told others those were our seats, as people were trying to get better seats after coming...
