Hiking the Inca Trail is so much more than taking the long route to Machu Picchu. I spent a TON of time looking into different tour operators, reading reviews and blogs, etc. Inkayani is the one I felt was the best option and I don't regret that decision in any way. If you're looking for a top-notch experience at a very reasonable price, Inkayani is unbeatable.
From the very beginning, working with the team at Inkayani was an easy and pleasant experience. Pre-trip information and planning was clear and easy to coordinate. Our (multiple) email questions were answered promptly and clearly.
I cannot say enough good things about our experience on the trail and in Machu Picchu with our guide, Paul Cano. Paul is a fun, intelligent, and engaging guide who you are going to learn so much from on various topics. He explained everything to expect very clearly and gave great advice on the trail to make sure we knew what we'd be doing each day and how to stay safe and enjoy our time. Paul is also clearly very passionate about Peruvian and Incan history, culture, and traditions and he has a deep level of knowledge about the ecosystem, flora, and fauna.
If you're interested in learning about Peru's natural history, Peruvian history and culture, Incan mythology and so much more as you experience this special journey, you definitely want to book a trip with Paul.
A review of this trip is not complete without talking about the FOOD! Guys, you will not believe how well you will be fed. Our chef, Mr. Roberto, is a master. We seriously ate better than we usually do at home. Breakfast, lunch, snacks, and dinner are all prepared with care. You will receive delicious, beautifully presented, and well-balanced meals every day. Furthermore, dishes will not be repeated (though, sometimes you'll wish they were because they were SO yummy), so you'll never get bored from eating the same thing everyday. I do a good amount of backcountry traveling and I was totally blown away by how awesome the meals were.
I am so grateful that I came across Inkayani as I was researching different guides to book our Inca Trail trip with. I am 100% convinced that our trek wouldn't have been as exceptional as it was without Paul, Roberto, and the rest of the kitchen and porter crew. Everyone was a joy to hike and camp with on this trip. There were a total of 5 of us tourists in the group and that small size made a big difference.
This is a trip that I've been dreaming about since I was a kid and it exceeded my expectations in every way possible. Don't wait another moment. Book your trip with...
Read moreThe Inca Trail to Machu Picchu was truly the experience of our lives and Incayni made it magical! All the adventure was perfectly organised, everything went as planned and expected. In our first meeting our lovely guide, papa Fredie, took the time to meet us and explained all the important information to get prepared for this trip, everything you need to bring and what you don’t need to bring. The best points go to the chasquis!!!! Those guys are something else! They will amaze you with their strength and the speed of their walking while carrying 25 kilos on their backs.. I had the pleasure to carry one of their backpacks for 15 minutes on the easiest part of the path and it’s truly unbelievable they can do what they do!!!! But what will amaze you more is their modesty, care, love, team connection and their organisational and problem solving skills, they are the ones who really make your days over there up in the mountains. Another thing that will amaze you is the food! The cook, Cristobal, is something else!!!! The food we were getting during this Incal trail was out of this planet!!!! So delicious, so ingenious, so nutritional… I promise, you will not believe you are eating soooo tasty on the mountains. One thing I can assure, you don’t need to bring more than one snack per day, you will get more than enough food up there. Our experience with Papa Fredie and the Cristobal team was unique! They were able to create and offer such an intimate and personalised experience that we have no words to thank them. From making adjustments to the paths to avoid crowds, to see some extra ruins or to enjoy a better view, to the freedom to walk at your own speed when Freddie stays with the slower members who might require some extra help. Papa Fredie was able to connect us with nature and transport us to the Inca era with his words and stories. This trail is a deep disconnection with the external world and a deep connection with your inner world and the pachamama. We learned so many interesting things about Inca’s and enjoyed each step we walked in their path. We have met some big groups from other companies and we were so thankful we were only 4 travellers in our group. The thing we liked the most is that Inkayni has a commitment to provide the best work conditions and payments to chasquis, and this was the reason it made us book with them. All that I told above is the reason why we would book with...
Read moreWe had an amazing 4 days on the inca trail to machu picchu. The porters or "chaskies" were very nice and helpful. Every morning we got tea or coffee at the tent, while the chef prepared a delicious breakfast, with everything we could have dreamed of. All the food during the tour was delicious and the chef really listened to our preferences. Never had such good service. Really can't thank these guys enough for making it possible for us to walk this trail. It was incredibly challenging and rewarding and I would recommend Inkayni to anyone planning on walking the Inca trail. Freddy was our guide for this experience. Since we were only with two (as they usually do private tours) we had very close contact and we could ask him a lot of questions, for which he made ample time. He had a lot of knowledge about the Quechua culture and the Inca times. He was very in touch with his spiritual side and tried to share his believes with us. This was interesting for one of us. He could have toned it down a bit to include both of us. The only negative would be that the tourguide was busier with other guides and making "new friends" compared to guiding us, but for us it wasn't to much of a problem. Another thing was that he kept giving us wrong timings and distances. If he said another 10 minutes, it was definitly more than 30 minutes. I think he was trying to keep up morale, but for us it was only annoying. We did hear other groups also had this.
If you are planning to do the inca trail, please take walking poles!!! This was the only thing keeping our knees somewhat alive. Take them all days also to the Machu Picchu, as even the last day was still four hours of steep descend and steep ascend. If your guide advices you to leave them the last day, DON'T LEAVE THEM!
If you want amazing service and being treated like royalty, pick Inkayni tours. They provide well for their porters and their guests. They are a local company and make time for questions beforehand and...
