I'm positively impressed with this building. Some of the massive arquitecture projects of the late soviet years can be beautiful and horrible at the same time.. It's the case of the Russian Academy of Sciences: My first impression from afar was of disgust, but it changed when we navigated its inner spaces.... The golden reflection of the sun iluminates the place and inspires at the same time a mixture of majesty...

Архитектурное решение комплекса в стиле «постсоветского модернизма» представляет собой трёхэтажный подиум, на котором стоят два соединённых друг с другом высотных 22-этажных здания. Малоэтажная часть комплекса разделена на четыре части, каждую из которых венчает декоративная металлическая конструкция золотистого оттенка, закрывающая расположенные на крыше элементы инженерно-технических коммуникаций и беспроводной связи. Такая же конструкция венчает высотную часть комплекса, за что здание академии наук получило прозвище «золотые мозги». Встроенные в декоративный венец малоэтажной части комплекса часы не работают по причине отсутствия в их механизме электронных деталей. В малоэтажной части комплекса размещается концертный зал вместимостью 1,5 тысячи посадочных мест, зимний сад и внутренний двор со стеклянной галереей, ведущей к лифтовому холлу высотной части.
