Gansbaai Vismark - Gansbaai Harbour — Local services in Overstrand Local Municipality

So we chose Gansbaai Vismark thinking we would be getting fresh fish because it's based on the harbour. They only had hake fillets, no middelcuts a clear indication that fish is pre-packed frozen fish like the ones you buy yourself at Visfabriek.. except that you pay R92 for them to fry it for you. The two ladies infront made us feel unwelcome not attending to us as friendly as they did the other customers. They became agitated when my sister said she ordered two hakes and not snoek and when I asked for a middelcut hake portion. If fish was fresh there would have been different variety of cuts available. I don't think my review will make any difference to their service because I don't think they cater for our coloured people. When food was done she sent one of the friers to bring it to us, but she came to bring the German tourists fish personally to them even said and I quote: "thank you, you lovely people!" We decided to leave and not eat there after which she then came out to inform us that the food doesn't have any salt and vinegar on and that we should put it on ourself! The fish tasted okay, but I've had better much better.. they can learn a lot from Mike's fisheries in Somerset West and Oceana 1&2 in Strand and Gordonsbay! We pay and our money has the same value as other customers so we should get the same services! I can't believe that you still get these type of people in 2024! We bought fresh from this place, we opted for fresh snoek and salmon, the saleslady convinced us that the snoek was frozen the day before and we believed her. We paid R130 for the snoek and R260 for the salmon. We arrived home with a rotten snoek and a yellowtail fis instead of salmon. Heard a lot about Vismark fish and chips. For the price you get a fair amount of chips, but a very small portion of fish. Compared to other places they are very expensive. All the places we bought fish and chips, served a portion of lemon slices, but no lemon served with their fish and chips. The fish also has a very thick oily batter. Not good quality fish and chips.
