Tolbos Bistro — Restaurant in Overstrand Local Municipality

We visited Tolbos Bistro in Gansbaai October 14, 2018 and I will never return to this restaurant. We waited for our food for more than 2 hours for our food and when we went to complain to the manager/owner he asked us: "Do we want our food or our docket" We so badly wanted to just walk out but since we had kids with us that were crying because of hunger at that point - we ended up staying. Needless to say, we didn't enjoy the food really because who can after getting treated like that. I want to point out that it was not the waiter's fault - it was the owner! I also need to add that what made it worst is that people that arrived after us, finished their food and left before we even received our food. What a terrible experience! I will never ever go...

On a stormy winters day we found that most Gansbaai eateries looked unappealing. Based on some positive online reviews and a craving for seafood we visited Tolbos bistro and were pleasantly surprised. The kiddies play area is set against a harbour view backdrop in a well tended garden and is utterly charming with a homemade fire engine that the kids loved. Horrid, avoid at all costs! They had no bottled wine, only box wine. We chose vegetables and rice as our sides to the main, as the food arrived we were told vegetables had not been prepared. We were given smoked snoek with the seafood platter as the hake hadn't 'defrosted' yet...this restaurant is on the harbour and is serving frozen fish!?! The calamari must have been from a box, the portions were tiny and we waited over an hour for our food. Our complaints to the waiter were met with laughter from the owner and no apology was forthcoming. An utter waste of...
