Ten-Bel Shopping Centre — Local services in Arona

Ten-Bel shopping centre would benefit greatly from demolition. It has that sort of British 1960s council planning feel about it, a place that has seen better days without necessarily taking part in them. A short walk around the crumbling pavements, with holes for the unwary to fall into, can be rewarding. An even shorter walk is more rewarding. By the graffiti-covered remains of what might once have been a supermarket, you will find the architectural centrepiece - a concrete tower, fenced off to prevent access, bearing silent bells. A few businesses continue in a hole next to it, and good luck to them, they deserve it. The best part is the bus stop, from where you can catch a bus to somewhere nice. Los Cristianos will cost you €1.25 with the Tenmas card. There are some nice places to eat, drink, or do your shopping if you are self-catering within a five minute walk. Head up the main road towards Teide, take the first right into Jose...

I use the camera shop here which, for a change, is staffed by a non-pushy guy who doesn't try and flog the entire contents of the shop to you. There are some bars and other shops there, all situated underground in the middle of a rather curious derelict above ground complex. I would love to know what it was, why it's derelict, why it's been like that for so long and how it passes any health and safety...

Very old and looks derelict from the top, whe. You go down into the main centre, a couple of great restaurants, the food was really nice and very cheap, a small shop for getting cigarette, tobacco etc and a shop that sells a little...
