Mercado de la Merced — Local services in Málaga

Wife and I sat outside at the Tapas/food round tables. We stopped for a quick snack as we were enroute to somewhere. Food was okay but not worth the money. You ‘MUST’ tell the two pushy waiters what you want to eat, don’t let them tell you or you’ll be served up with the most expensive dish on the menu. We witnessed tourists asking for tapas but we’re sold a meal on every account. My Spanish gets me by but even I was duped by his language. It was our first visit there- we’ve lived in Spain for 4yrs. We’ll be giving it a wide berth next time. Save your money and try a real Spanish tapas bar, there’s plenty in Spain, don’t let the outside old worn out fittings and fixtures bother you, that’s where there’s the best tapas are to be had. Avoid- don’t get carried away by the young dudes collating around the tables, they’re only there...

Algo le falta a este sitio. Siempre esta vacio. ¿Quizás los precios sean un poco altos?¿Será que no esta suficientemente definida la imagen que quieren dar?

El caso es que las cafeterias y bare que hay son poco frecuentados. Parece que no logran contar con un público fijo. Los habitantes de la zona no cuentan el "Mercado de la Merced" como sitio clave para salir a tomar algo.

También tiene fruterías y carnicerías que por las mañana son visitadas por clientes habituales. El carnicero que hay en frente del puesto de semillas, frutos secos, etc es muy amable. La carne que vende está bien y a veces te regala huesos para los perros (si tienes).

En mi opinión con las fruterías hay que tener algo de cuidado. Hay 3. Solo recomiendo 1. El chico de la esquina. Las otras 2 señoras cobran segun led parezca y en vsrias ocasiones me han vendido cosas en mal estado (aguacates negros por dentro, tomates ablandecidos por golpes).

Great place to eat, we came here thrice and tried a new thing every time. The seafood stand is good, the grill is great (5€ for a absolutely tender and tasty steak, 2.5€ for a plate of sausage), the pinchos not great but good value for price. Cheap drinks. Good for a quick meal or when you are tired of all the other too...
