Bron byggdes mellan åren 1917 och 1922 . Norra Danviksbron har stora kulturhistoriska värden. Framförallt på grund av den sällsynta brokonstruktionen designad av Joseph Baermann Strauss, samma person som designade Golden Gate-bron i Kalifornien. De flesta konstruktionsritningar av brons stålkonstruktion är av tyskt upphov och är en kopia på en av Joseph Baermann Strauss stålbroar i Chicago, vars ritningar spridits i Tyskland.
