Apart from visiting the Vasa museum this little gem has been our highlight in our 4 days stay at Stockholm. Due to the very high temperatures at Midsommar we escaped the city center to stroll along the park. The entrance to the villa is about 12 Euro but totally worth it. The ticket office is in a smaller housing next to the villa. The tour starts on the left with a gallery of lovely paintings of Swedish art from around the 1900s in the romantic style. The tour continues in the villa right after a tunnel passage. The rooms are just beautiful showing you an extraordinary life style from around 1900 including Vienna modern and art nouveau. The different colors of light from the window blinds and room interior is amazing. Also have a look at the flowers in each room. They are all real and freshly taken from the nursery garden around the corner (can not be visited). Plan for about 1 to 2 hours for this place. I highly recommend taking the bus to the very right eastern end of the island to board one of the SL ferries (line 82, if you got a SL day ticket). It will bring you back downtown (or Vasa museum) with a few stops on the other side of the bay giving you the opportunity the get get some nice photos.

Visiting Prins Eugens Waldemarsudde was an absolute highlight of my time in Stockholm. The museum perfectly blends art, history, and nature in a way that feels both inspiring and deeply calming. Housed in the former residence of Prince Eugen, the interiors give a warm, elegant sense of the prince’s life and artistic passion, while the collections showcase a beautiful balance of Swedish and international works. One of the things that makes Waldemarsudde so special is its setting on Djurgården — the gardens are immaculately kept, with sculptures thoughtfully placed among flowers and trees, all overlooking the water. It’s the kind of place where you don’t just view art, you experience it in harmony with nature. I especially loved walking through the park before stepping inside to enjoy the exhibitions. The staff was welcoming and knowledgeable, and the entire atmosphere encouraged slow discovery rather than rushing through. Whether you’re a seasoned art lover or just someone who enjoys beautiful surroundings with cultural depth, Waldemarsudde is a must-visit. It’s not just a museum — it feels like stepping into a piece of living history, infused with creativity and serenity.

This is a beautiful museum, split between the main manor and the gallery. The current exhibition celebrates female landscape artists such as Anna Boberg, Ester Almqvist and Charlotte Wahlström. The paintings are stunning, capturing the beauty of Nordic landscapes. The manor is beautifully preserved, with the downstairs more of a museum and the upstairs an extension of the gallery. While this is located away from the other museums on the island, this is definitely worth visiting.

We have been visiting Waldemarsudde for almost 20 years, every time we are in Stockholm. The atmosphere that this place exudes has its origins and justification in the person of Prince Eugene. Ludwig van Beethoven once wrote to Prince Karl von Lichnowsky: "Prince, what you are, you are by chance of birth. What I am, I am solely thanks to myself. There have been, are, and will be thousands of princes – but there is only one Beethoven!" However, Prince Eugen could undoubtedly say the same about himself: who he was, apart from his princely title, he owed to himself. He left behind a part of his personality and art that is still alive today, most tangibly visible in Waldemarsudde. And that is why it is worth visiting this place and...
