2 Day Winter Itinerary for Zermatt ( not involving skiing ) ~ Save for Later ~ •• Day 1 : Explore the Zermatt village in the morning, and hop on to the Gornergrat Bahn at noon. Explore Riffelalpsee, Rotenboden, Iglu Dorf and Gornergrat. Admire the gorgeous views of the Swiss alps including the Matterhorn and Monte Rosa peaks and the Gorner Glacier. Catch the train back to Zermatt after sunset! •• Day 2 : Explore Schwarzsee and the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise on Klein Matterhorn or take the Sunnegga - Blauherd - Rothorn cablecar route. •• There is so much to explore in Zermatt and make sure you do it at your own pace. If you want to go about in a more relaxed way over the weekend, we recommend exploring the Zermatt village on Day 1 and heading to Gornergrat on Day 2 like we did 🙃 •• Share this with someone you want to take with you on the trip to Zermatt 👉🏼 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #welivetoexplore #welivetotravel #switzerland_vacations #zermattswitzerland #zermatt #beautifuldestinations #beautifulplaces #bucketlisttravel #tobleronemountain

Here's a great and easy itinerary that takes only about 2 hours, offers wonderful views of the Matterhorn, and is much cheaper than other options from Zermatt, is to climb to Blauherd on the gondola, walk 20 min to Stellisee (from where the ubiquitous photo of Matterhorn reflection in the lake was taken, and it's better than Riffelsee), then return to Blauherd, rent a mountain cart and ride it down to Sunegga. From Sunegga descend to Zermatt by funicular. At Blauherd don't forget to take a photo at the wooden heart frame, although you may have to be patient when young egocentric women spend a long time taking dozens of selfies there. From Sunegga you may choose to take a short detour to Leisee, particularly fun for kids. The combi ticket for Zermatt-Blauherd + Sunegga-Zermatt is 43 CHF as of Sep 2024. The mountain cart rental from Blauherd to Sunegga is 15 CHF and great fun!

This is the second of three legs to get to the top of the Rothorn. From this stop, you can take several walks, even walking all the way around the valley to the Gornergrat Railway, which we did and it was awesome. Highly recommend this. We went in the peak of August and there was zero line or wait.

Blauherd station is at 2571m in the Zermatt mountains. It's a fantastic stop on the way to Rothorn (the top). Also the starting point for the five lakes hike.

Grindjisee Stellisee Grunsee Moosjisee Leisee

These are all very small alpine lakes where you can get mountain reflections.

Stellisee was our favorite.

If you want sunset views, plan on hiking down the mountain as the lifts and whatnot don't run that late. Definitely hike it in daylight first and bring your...
