Be very careful with the vendors using scales here.

I paid for 4.5kg of guavas from vendor 1, 3.7kg of mangos from vendor 2, and 2.5kg of pineapples from vendor 3. Back home, my kitchen scale showed 2.9kg for the 4.5kg guava, 1.9kg for the 3.7kg mangos, and 1.5kg for the 2.5kg pineapples.

I began to suspect that I was sold less weight than I paid after I realized that the weight of another 2kg item I'd bought at the market felt very similar in weight with the mangos (for which I paid 3.7kg).

I thought to use my kitchen scale at home as a "second opinion," but I needed to eliminated the possibility of my scale being considerably off from the vendors'. I did this by choosing the largest piece of produce from among the guavas, mangos, and pineapples and asked the respective vendors (innocently) if they would kindly weigh the pieces for my information. They all did, I noted the weights of the samples, and back home, my scale did not differ from theirs by more than .1kg.

Now, why would my scale be close with theirs on the individual items, but be so far off relative to the total weight of the produce group? I suspect it's because the vendors have incentive to literally tip the scales in their favor when we were buying. They had no incentive to tip the scales in their favor when I had already purchased the items and was just "innocently" asking a question about the weight of an item for my own information.

The only reason I gave one more star for a 2 is because value could be found here...just not necessarily from among vendors with scales. Pity, their shortsightedness lost what would have been a loyal...
