20200715: showed up around 1400h, found the place closed, and only discovered (with much difficulty in communication with a local) that the shop will not reopen until Sep 2020.
there seems to be a general and, frankly astonishing, trend in Taiwan whereby shops simply decide to close up for a few months at a time because the owners want to take a break. this serves to illustrate the incredible lack of consideration shop owners have for their customers--their very raison d'existence--as it creates unexpected inconveniences (such as when customers travel a long way for nothing) for them.
even if one can be sympathetic to these extended vacations, the lack of communication--such as by a printed notice or via proactive verbal reminder--is simply inexcusable. we were not told the last time we frequented and that was less than a month away from their impending hiatus.
their product is definitely 5 star, but this issue necessitates a reduction in the rating overall.
20200619: ordered sesame, taro, red bean. product quality maintained.
20200401: these mochi are amazing. tried their peanut, sesame, taro, and red bean. all were excellent, very hard to pick a personal favorite.
need to try their other flavors. to be more green, will bring a container as the flimsy disposable plastic ones they use fail to sufficiently contain the ground...
Read moreIt was a pleasant surprise to pass by this place while heading to Xing Tian temple. When I first walked past there were less than 10 people in the queue and I was telling myself I will come back again after visiting the temple, and when I returned the queue was like 20 meters long! It is definitely not easy to find something so traditional in the city, at such unbelieveable prices. 1 piece only costs 12 TWD and the size is big enough to almost fill the entire mouth! I have to say they have quite a lot of flavours to choose from, but for a first timer like me it is recommended to have 1 flavour each so you get to try all the flavours in a box. Also as mentioned it is best to consume the day itself to ensure freshness, but I guess it is okay if you put in the fridge for another 1-2 days. Very enjoyable, the mochi is so chewy and then the filling is so thick. I loved all the flavours but what stood out for me was the taro and the black sesame. It's definitely worth trying and...
Read moreThere was a queue even though it was drizzling. The ladies working there were so efficient and coordinated that the queue moved pretty fast.
The mochi came in different flavours that you can choose: peanut, sesame, red bean, yam, green bean and plain. The outside of the mochi was coated generously with peanut too.
We bought a box which came with 6 mochis. We got 2 peanut, 2 sesame and 2 red bean. The mochis was so big that we only manage to eat only 3 at the first go.
The mochis were not too sweet, the mochi to filling ratio is just nice for me but some would say that there’s too much mochi.
Do take note that you’re only allowed to purchase 2 boxes (12...
