🚄 HSR Hsinchu Station Analysis Report
Location & Connectivity • Geographic Position: Located in 竹北市 (Zhubei City), 新竹縣, not in Hsinchu City proper. • Transportation Hub: • Serves as a key node connecting Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR) with Taiwan Railways (TRA) Liujia Line, enabling transfers between regional trains and the high-speed network. • Well integrated with highways and expressways (National Highway No. 1 and No. 3 are nearby), convenient for road commuters. • Bus and taxi services cover Hsinchu Science Park, Zhubei residential areas, and downtown Hsinchu.
⸻
Surrounding Development • Hsinchu Science Park Access: Although the station is in Zhubei, shuttle buses and the TRA Liujia Line connect it directly to Hsinchu Science Park, serving tens of thousands of engineers and staff daily. • Zhubei Growth: The station area has spurred rapid development in Zhubei, including: • Real estate boom: High-rise residential communities, with prices often higher than Hsinchu City. • Commercial clusters: Shopping centers, restaurants, and office buildings are concentrated around the station. • Educational facilities: Schools and cultural centers have grown to accommodate new residents.
⸻
Passenger Flow & Usage • Passenger Rank: Among the mid-to-high volume THSR stations (not as high as Taipei, Taichung, or Zuoying, but higher than Miaoli, Yunlin, or Chiayi). • Commuter Pattern: • Heavy use by tech professionals commuting between Taipei ↔ Hsinchu and Taichung ↔ Hsinchu. • Increasing residential migration to Zhubei means more daily commuters use HSR for work in Taipei. • Peak Times: Morning rush (to Taipei) and evening return are the busiest, especially Mon–Fri.
⸻
Economic Impact • Real Estate: • The station has been a major driver of property value increases in Zhubei. • Housing prices per ping(坪)often surpass those in central Hsinchu, given better planning, newer buildings, and transport convenience. • Business: • Strong concentration of restaurants, cafes, and retail near the station. • Hotels and serviced apartments benefit from tech company visitors. • Science Park Synergy: By shortening travel time, the station expands the talent pool for Hsinchu industries, boosting competitiveness.
⸻
Future Prospects & Challenges • Prospects: • Potential integration with Taiwan’s future MRT or regional light rail projects could further enhance accessibility. • Continued urban expansion in Zhubei will solidify the station as the “new city center.” • Challenges: • Congestion during peak hours (roads around the station and shuttle bus demand). • Balancing development with livability (green space, traffic management, and public facilities). • Ensuring Hsinchu City (downtown) doesn’t lag behind in development as Zhubei thrives.

30mins if you want to take it slow and easy, and especially if you need time to interpret the signs.
Hsinzhu station resides beside a small mall with expensive cafe and eatery. The rail station has 2 7-11 stores, with mos burger, mister donut, a Japanese take away sushi and donburi… and a Starbucks cafe as well as a bubble tea shop.
There are plenty of seats on level 1 and when I visited on 30-Dec Saturday, there were lots of people but they don’t linger and there are seats available. Overall, it’s a very pleasant station and toilets are clean. There is also drinking water stations available to top up your water bottles.

Transfer to Taiwan Railway Hsinchu Station at this station. The world is connected by Taiwan Railway's branch line "Liujia Line". It is important to note that the Liujia Line's shuttle train runs every 30 minutes, so the interval is long and you need to calculate the arrival time of the high-speed rail. Is the departure time of the Yuliujia Line to and from Hsinchu Railway Station sufficient? My personal experience is that you need to reserve 10 to 15 minutes for a leisurely and comfortable connection. The ride from Taiwan Railway Liujia Station (High Speed Rail Hsinchu Station) to Taiwan Railway Hsinchu Station takes about 20 minutes. If you are traveling from New Taipei City, Taoyuan, or Miaoli, it is recommended to take the Taiwan Railway Ziqiang Express or the New Ziqiang Express directly, which includes the transfer time. Slightly better. If you are in the northern, northern, Keelung, or Yuhua-East area south of Taichung, it is recommended to take the bus directly to Taipei Station or transfer to the Taiwan Railway. It is more economical in terms of time and price and does not require...
