Based on a friend's recommendation, myself and 3 others planned a trek with Kilisa Tours for February 2022. We truly worked with a dream team! They were wonderful to work with from the start. We had to postpone a few times due to the pandemic in 2020, and Kilisa was more than accommodating in working with us to reschedule for one person in the group's 40th birthday to be the date we summit! In February of 2022 we all flew out to do an 8 day Lemosho route on Kilimanjaro! Kilisa made it super easy by meeting us at the airport and then transporting us to the hotel we were staying at the evening before our trek. We were able to meet our guides for the trip and they were able to review the gear we brought to make sure we had what we needed! The next morning we set off on our trek. Our guides were patient with our group's varied abilities and helped us all to feel energized and excited for each adventure. We were offered many breaks and got to learn a lot about the flora and fauna we passed as well as about Tanzanian culture. We were amazed by just how nice everyone was from Kilisa tours. Our porters were incredibly strong and fast, they would break down camp after we had already started hiking, pass us during the hike, and have camp set up for us before we got there! Our chef and waiter (yes a waiter!) were amazing. At each meal we were fed multi course feasts with a variety of options! One member of our group had dietary restrictions and they were able to accommodate her and make separate portions to meet her needs! We were all full and very happy after each meal. With each meal we also were offered hot water for tea, coffee or coco and they provided all the fixings you could want to go with your meal or drinks. The accommodations on the mountain were wonderful, we had spacious tents that you could easily sit up in for camping with thick warm sleeping pads. For dinning, they provided a full tent with table chairs and even a tablecloth. The guides were wonderful in helping our group acclimate appropriately and monitored everyone's health in a respectful, encouraging way, never making anyone feel discouraged no matter how the altitude or weather was affecting them. We had 2 members of the group that were having some issues with the altitude, and our dream team thought ahead and two porters agreed to assist our group with the summit. The two porters helped carry the gear for the 2 individuals having issues and all the guides and porters helped encourage and lead our team up for the summit push. One member started to feel very lightheaded and the guides were able to help her work through her dizziness, assess if it was wise to continue and then monitored her carefully as we continued up. Thanks to the amazing oversight from the team, all 4 of us made it to the summit! Even more amazing was that at the summit, for the birthday, the guides pulled out a birthday sign and balloons for her and we all got to take a birthday picture with the summit sign! Even more amazing was later that evening after we got to our final camp, the chef surprised the birthday girl with a beautiful and delicious birthday cake! We truly did have a dream team with Bakari leading the way and Omary always ready for a laugh! We could not recommend using Kilisa tours enough, they were wonderful to work with and we all had an amazing time hiking Kilimanjaro with them!

We had an amazing safari and Kilimanjaro summit all thanks to Kilisa! Their service was top notch and value was fantastic. The service provided by our guides and supporting staff were top notch! We started with a 6 day safari that was absolutely epic. Our Safari Guide, Chris, was incredible! You should definitely request him. He was super nice and very accommodating. He found us every animal we could ever have wanted to see! Despite some challenging off-road driving conditions, he never got stuck and always got us to see the best animals around. We saw lions and elephants that were so close, we would nearly reach out and touch them from the landcruiser. He found us two leopards, two cheetahs, tons of lions, two rhinos and more zebras, giraffes, cape buffalos, and wildabeasts than we could count, just to name a few. My favorite was seeing a male lion out in a rain storm who was seperated from his pride. He was calling out to them and you could see the worry in his eye as he walked right by our landcruiser in search of them. We then did a Kilimanjaro hike to the summit via the Lemosho 7 day route. Our guides, Rama and Bakari, were fantastic and the chef, Kurwa, amazed us with the food he was able to make on the mountain. Our waiter, Arold was gracious and attentive in delivering all the food to our dining tent. I highly recommend requesting them. The team of porters (Salim, Frenk, Mohamed, Josephat, Mwingi, Sigi, David, Siriri, Msafiri, Idd, Abdina and Moyo) amazed us with their kindness, helpfulness and always positive attitudes. They were always smiling even when carrying a heavy load at high altitudes in chilling conditions. Their attitudes were truly inspiring. Naick is the owner and the lead coordinator. He was very helpful over the course of more than a month of coordination via email to set up and schedule the trip. He was always responsive and able to answer all of our questions and take care of all of our needs. It was challenging to execute this trip during COVID because of our flights getting cancelled but Naick helped us adjust as necessary. Going during COVID turned out to be a huge bonus because the national parks are all virtually empty so you get the animals and Kilimanjaro virtually to yourself. You can't go wrong with Kilisa! Their prices were the best we found and the experience we enjoyed was incredible. Their safari vehicle was a new Toyota landcruiser Safari conversion that I absolutely loved. It got us through mud and water crossings in style and comfort and never broke down despite many miles on some pretty tough roads. Their trek equipment was all in good shape. Our tents were nice and the gear we rented was also in good shape. I highly recommend Kilisa!

This trip was a long time in the making and Naick/Kilisa Tours helped us to achieve this every step of the way. Kilisa seemed to be the most reasonably priced when we searched around but when we finally got onto the trek, we realised just how good the value was for our money. We had a team of 15 locals from the Kilimanjaro Region with us, including two experienced guides, Nickson and Livingstone. With their help we, as inexperienced but reasonably fit hikers, were able to reach the summit. The team could not have been more supportive. In the long buildup, Naick was very patient and helpful in emails and whatsapp messaging, allowing us the time and knowledge that we needed to organise our trip. We got a thorough briefing and help preparing our trekking gear/clothes, at the hotel, on the night before the trek. Each evening we had a briefing about the following day, before getting a wake up call in the morning from our attentive host, Zakayo - who accompanied us to the summit on the final day and will make for a great future guide. We were treated to fresh ginger tea daily, as well as other hot drinks and soup to keep warm and big portioned meals/snacks for energy. The porters in the team have great strength and heart. After we had stocked our smaller bags with the day's essentials, they would pack up the camp, including our remaining larger bags and move the whole camp to our next location - overtaking us on the way! At this point, as others have mentioned, paying for a private toilet for your group/self, to have as part of your camps, is well worth the money from the start. Our guides were more than mere pace setters, pointing the way forward, they were knowledgeable about the local region, flora and forna. They have vast experience of climbing Kilimanjaro from all the various routes. Also, importantly, they were very humble, friendly, supportive, just generally good humoured company, as well as making for decent photographers for our small group! The trek itself is manageable, as the guides will tell you, it is more of a mental test and taking things "pole pole" - slow and steady will get you to the top, while allowing you to enjoy the journey and some breathtaking views along the way! Finally to emphasise again, this is a locally based company with local employees. They provided our small group of three with a thoroughly enjoyable and unforgettable experience. I hope that spreading the word with this review, will go some way to repaying them for their hospitality and the fantastic memories which they have given to us.

Kilimanjaro Hike Organized by Kilisa Tours & Safaris We recently completed a memorable Kilimanjaro hike organized by local agent Kilisa Tours & Safaris, and I can confidently say that this was a 5-star experience from start to finish. From the exceptional gear provided to the highly skilled crew, delicious meals on the mountain, and the meticulous safety measures, every aspect of the trek was handled with the utmost professionalism and care. One of the first things that stood out was the top-notch gear provided for the hike. Kilisa Tours & Safaris supplied us with 4-season tents that were sturdy, spacious, and kept us warm even in the freezing temperatures at higher altitudes. The sleeping mats were comfortable and thick enough to ensure a good night's rest. Additionally, the trekking poles, gloves, jackets, and rain gear were of excellent quality, helping us stay well-prepared and protected during the trek. It was clear that Kilisa Tours & Safaris prioritizes the comfort and safety of their climbers, ensuring that all the gear provided was fit for purpose and in excellent condition. The Kilimanjaro crew truly made the experience unforgettable. The guides, porters, and cooks were not only incredibly professional but also friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. The guides had an in-depth understanding of the mountain, the trails, and the challenges associated with each section of the hike. They were highly experienced in managing altitude sickness and were always available to offer support when needed. They maintained a steady pace, ensuring that we had enough time to acclimatize and rest. The porters worked tirelessly behind the scenes, setting up camp, preparing meals, and ensuring everything was in place by the time we reached each campsite. Their teamwork and efficiency were impressive, and their positive attitude throughout the hike made the experience even more enjoyable. One of the highlights of the trek was the delicious food prepared by the Kilisa Tours & Safaris chefs. The meals were not only nutritious but also varied and flavorful, which was a pleasant surprise given the conditions on the mountain. We were served hot breakfasts, hearty lunches, and filling dinners, with a variety of options that kept us energized throughout the hike. Whether it was a warm porridge in the morning, a freshly cooked vegetable stew at lunch, or a tasty pasta dinner, the meals were consistently excellent. The team also made sure to provide snacks and enough water to keep us hydrated and fueled for the trek. This attention to detail with the food made a significant difference in keeping our spirits high during the challenging portions of the climb. Safety is a critical aspect of any Kilimanjaro climb, and Kilisa Tours & Safaris took it very seriously. From the start, we were briefed on the importance of acclimatization, hydration, and recognizing the signs of altitude sickness. The guides were vigilant in monitoring our health and well-being throughout the climb, checking in with each climber regularly and making adjustments to the pace when necessary. We were also equipped with emergency oxygen tanks and pulse oximeters to monitor oxygen levels, ensuring that any potential issues were detected early. The crew’s proactive approach to safety, combined with their wealth of experience, helped create a sense of security throughout the hike. I felt that my well-being was in capable hands, and this allowed me to focus on the climb itself with confidence Our Kilimanjaro hike with Kilisa Tours & Safaris was an exceptional experience. From the high-quality gear and excellent food to the expert crew and rigorous safety measures, every aspect of the trek was handled with care and professionalism. I couldn’t have asked for a better team to guide me to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. If you're looking for a reliable and well-organized local company for your Kilimanjaro adventure, Kilisa Tours & Safaris is the way to go. They truly go above and beyond to ensure their clients have an unforgettable and...

Best price and experienced guides to climb Mount Kilimanjaro! Details on our trip and traveling during COVID-19 below:

My boyfriend (30M) and I (28F) hired kilisa tours for a private tour to climb Mount Kilimanjaro on November 2020. We both love the outdoors and did our research before the trip. The moment we decided on what route to take we contacted the agency and they replied promptly. They offered us a really good price and assured us they could provide all the gear for us. We decided to book with kilisa because they are a local company and their price fit our budget perfectly.

The things we loved most about our trip:

On arrival at Kilimanjaro airport the driver and our guide were very punctual. I really liked getting to meet the guide at that time, it eased my anxiety and made me feel more prepared for the trip ahead. I also appreciate him coming to pick us up because we arrived late in the evening to the airport.

The hotel the agency arranged for us was marvelous. Quaint, very clean, and with very tasty local food. They allowed us to order food very late in the evening which was, again, amazing!

Our two guides Bakari and Good Luck were very knowledgeable and experienced. They responded to absolutely all of our absurd and random questions and made us feel we were amongst family. I also loved how they showed a beautiful balance between guiding us and letting us explore here and there. I didn’t feel like a “tourist” in their presence, I actually felt like I was part of a family trip with my two very cool uncles lol. I can’t end without adding that without Bakari and Good luck I wouldn’t have made it to Uhuru peak. Thank you for your encouraging words and shoulders to lean on. I will be forever grateful and forever a fan of you two. If you do chose to book with kilisa ask for Bakari and Good luck, you won’t regret it!

Oh and don’t forget, always drink at least two liters of water. Asante sana kaka bakari and kaka good luck!

Rongai route was definitely the right choice for us. We did not encounter absolutely anyone on our way up until we got to base camp. Very peaceful journey and allowed us to acclimatize better. We got to climb high and sleep low. I work at a lab sitting down all day so I wasn’t in the best shape. I wanted to ensure I had the best possibility to summit, so this was the right choice.

The team of porters and chef that accompanied us was also amazing. All very polite and very helpful. They set up beautifully everyday for breakfast, lunch, and dinner (we even had flowers to decorate the table!!!). They were always attentive and they even carried me to base camp after the summit because my knees were a mess. The food was always hot and my favorite was the soup! A great choice for when you’re so tired you don’t even think you can chew lol. Thank you chef moyo as well as arold, Juma, Hussein, Archibald, Richard, Kurwa, Sirili, and Abdina! You’re the real MVPs!

What we did not like as much:

The only thing I can complain about is the state of the tent. The porters worked tirelessly to keep it nice and dry for us but some things can’t be remedied. We wished we had a slightly bigger and more waterproof tent. Although we still arrived dry and rested, some of our clothes did not make it dry.

FINALLY

Traveling to Tanzania during the pandemic is completely safe. We arrived covid free and left covid free and mind you, we never wore masks during our trip. Not even at the airport!

We all know that business has been affected by the pandemic but if you’re looking into booking a trip to Tanzania consider doing so with a local company. You’ll be directly helping the families of the people living there during these trying times.

And also,

Thank you to Kilisa tours! We will totally book again with you guys when we do it all again in 10 years. Hope to see you then! In the mean time we recommend anyone looking into booking with kilisa to do so without fear. You’re in...

Our group of five friends recently returned from an amazing 4-day safari in Tanzania, organized by Kilisa Tours & Safaris, and we couldn’t be more thrilled with our experience. From the moment we arrived, everything was impeccably organized, and the safari exceeded all of our expectations. We were greeted at Kilimanjaro International Airport by a friendly driver from Kilisa Tours & Safaris, who made us feel welcome right away. The drive to Tarangire National Park was smooth and scenic, offering glimpses of rural Tanzania. Upon arriving, we were struck by the beauty of the park, famous for its massive baobab trees and large elephant herds. The game drive was fantastic, and our guide made sure to stop at key spots for great wildlife sightings, including lions, giraffes, and hundreds of elephants. The accommodations were comfortable and set in a beautiful, quiet environment where we could relax after our first day of adventure. On Day 2, we set off early for Serengeti National Park, one of the most famous safari destinations in the world. The journey was long, but our guide kept us entertained with fascinating facts about the wildlife and culture of Tanzania. Once we arrived in the Serengeti, the experience truly took off. The vastness of the park left us in awe, and we saw everything from the Big Five to cheetahs, wildebeests, and exotic birds. The day was packed with thrilling wildlife sightings, and we were especially lucky to catch a glimpse of a leopard resting in a tree! Our guide’s knowledge and expertise made this day an absolute highlight. Day 3 was dedicated to the Ngorongoro Crater, known as the “Eighth Wonder of the World.” We descended into the crater floor and were immediately surrounded by wildlife. It felt like being transported into a different world—lush, green, and teeming with animals. We saw lions, zebras, buffalo, and even a rhino in the distance. The landscape was stunning, and the fact that we could see so much wildlife in such a small area made it a truly special experience. The picnic lunch inside the crater was a nice touch, allowing us to relax and enjoy the incredible surroundings. On our final day, we visited Lake Manyara National Park, famous for its tree-climbing lions and incredible birdlife. The park is small compared to the others, but it offers a diverse landscape, from dense forests to the sparkling lake. We were fortunate to spot some of the tree-climbing lions, a rare and exciting experience. After a lovely lunch in the park, we made our way back to Arusha, where we were dropped off at our hotel. Kilisa Tours & Safaris ensured our departure was seamless, and the team made sure we were well taken care of until the very end. Kilisa Tours & Safaris truly made our safari unforgettable. From the excellent communication before the trip to the knowledgeable guides and comfortable accommodations, every aspect of the safari was top-notch. The tour was tailored to our group’s interests and preferences, and we never felt rushed or overcrowded. The small details, like the delicious picnic lunches, personal care from the guide, and their commitment to sustainability, made the trip even more special. We highly recommend Kilisa Tours & Safaris for anyone looking for an authentic, well-organized safari experience in Tanzania. They exceeded our expectations in every way, and we would love to book another tour with them in the future! Would we recommend? Absolutely!
