Chalong Fishing Park Phuket - Part 1
Where to startâŚâŚ Firstly massive thank you to Jez Chalong, Jen, Boy, Fem, Know And GĂ´n.
Started fishing Monday 23rd (Full day) 8:30am Spoke with the owner Jez over a cuppa and got to know the lake along with the rules and regs. After finding out itâs been a bit quiet in the morning day time I was still optimistic as I could see fish topping everywhere. With that the breakfast(Full English with tea/coffee and orange juice) was ordered and delivered to the swim which is well worth the money and will keep you going all day. Wasnât long till the rod was off and was treated with a Pacu closely followed by a Tiger catfish which was stunning. The lake awoke and soon every one was catching fish. Red tails, pacu, other species of catfish and lots more. Later in the afternoon we got to meet 3 lovely Britâs Cliff,Dave and Annette. Cliff had his target of catching an Arapaima. I laughed and thought Iâll believe it when I see it. 2 hours later, boom! fish on and Cliff landed his target fish. Heavy enough it needed four men to lift it. Well rested and returned back to deeply hollows she went. The lake carried on fishing well through on to close at 18:30. Tuesday 24th (half day) back at it this morning 08:30 first cast and fish on. The lake produced all morning and lunch. Fished till the half day close 13:30 and was quite happy to take a rest.
All in all it was a fantastic fishing experience. The lads that work the lake are solid and I suggest you listen to there advice. They know there stuff and was trying so many different types of rigs and baits to try and give us the best chance of success. The food menu is big and Jen does a mixture of English and Thai food so thereâs something for everyone and it tasted great and very reasonably priced and is delivered to your swim.
Really enjoyed everything from start to finish that Iâve decided to rebook this weekend.
Thanks again to all the staff and other anglers I met at Chalong Fishing...
Read moreThe day started perfectly with a full English cooked breakfast with PROPER bacon! đ the welcome and hospitality were warm and Jez Chalong was most helpful with my enquiry as to wether fly fishing was a possibility. He went way above and beyond by contacting his friend Neil Campbell to bring his fly fishing gear down as a favour.
I started the day coarse fishing and had several different species including a 40 lbs Asian carp, walking catfish, asian red tail catfish, red tail catfish, pacu and chao phraya catfish.
I had an hour on the fly to get my eye in during the hottest part of the day; had a pull but no hook up. I decided to return to coarse fishing until the temperature and sun dropped a bit.
Around 5.45 I went back on the fly and within 10 minutes I was in! The guide Dee, who really couldnât have been more attentive throughout the entire day and helped in any way he could was straight in the water with the net, rod bent double, drag tightened right up and the fish was still taking line. Eventually I got its head up and Dee netted it to a loud cheer from the 6 spectators and video operators by the bar. No arapaima but caught a 15lbs asian redtail tiger catfish on the fly! What a scrap!
What a memory. Thanks Jez Chalong, Dee and Neil Campbell.
Highly recommended and for the non fishers, they have a pool table and a...
Read moreHad a cracking days fishing, Jez and the lads were really helpful from arranging the trip before I went to putting us on the fish whilst there. Lost count of the fish and species I had but took loads of photo's(not even going to try and spell the species), but had fish upto 40kg. I spent the full day there with my wife from 8am and left about 6.30pm. There was plenty to keep the wife occupied whilst I was fishing, small sheltered huts around the pond to sit in the shade, hammocks to chill in, a bar serving drinks and food at very reasonable prices, even a swimming pool to cool off in. I had the pond to myself up until 2pm and then it started getting busy with people turning up for the afternoon ticket price, still caught fish though even when it was busy. I would say anyone serious about catching fish to go for the full day, the fish did have feeding spells in the morning and even had a couple of double hook ups before lunch time. I took a few kg of bait, mainly boilies, would be a good idea to contact Jez on Facebook or email before your trip to ask if there is any bait you can take with you if coming from Europe, boilies aren't available in Thailand and fish really well, although some boilies and other baits are all provided along with all rods and tackle. Big thank you to Jez and the lads for the best days...
