Rose Valley was a great hike in Cappadocia, not to difficult either. You can choose to climb up rocks and hills to achieve better views and make it more exciting but it’s not essential.
It’s amazing to see all the carvings and dwellings in the rocks, some of them are very high and makes you wonder how they managed to create these all them years ago! Most of of the dwellings are off limits but there are some you can get into and have a look around. Amazing to see some that have 2 stories and carved out stairs between the 2 floors, can only imagine how long it must have taken to make them..
It’s a 2/3 hour hike hike so manage your time, we were luck to get it just right and catch the sunset right at the end which was beautiful! We travelled with 2 boys aged 8 and 10 and they enjoyed it very much. There is also a small shop selling refreshments about half way through but I'd still suggest taking your own water, the shop just pops up when you think you are in the middle of nowhere!! (See Pics)
We enjoyed this hike, no need to do it again but would recommend if your in Cappadocia! We decided to go it on our own, no tour guide and was reasonably straight forward, there are a few valleys and if you plan to visit more then 1 I’d...
Read moreIf you only have time for one hike in Cappadocia traversing across the Rose Valley is a must do!! Definitely wear good hiking shoes or sneakers with proper grip because the trail is very sandy and can be slippery at some points. I went during off tourist season (end of November) and the trail was fairly quiet, just came across a handful of hikers along the entire trail and I unsurprisingly didn't come across any refreshment vendors as mentioned in other reviews (they likely only operate during the busy tourist season). The landscape here is beautiful from all angles and it's wonderful that the trail starts from a lower angle and takes you higher up around the mid point - so you get to appreciate a good mix of different viewsheds. If you're walking towards the old cave town of Cavusin it's great to explore - there are people still in the area alongside abandoned cave homes, a quaint mosque, and some locals have converted their old family cave homes into shops. I came across one store that had good quality cotton scarves with beautiful patterns for very affordable prices. During off season these shops offer better rates since there are fewer customers and hence...
Read moreWe did the horse ride tour here booked through Apino tour agency. One of the best experiences in my life. I thought it would be a simple horse ride through flat land. Boy was I wrong! This was a thrilling ride up and down rocky hills and narrow paths and ledges. Felt like I was in a Western cow boy movie! specially with the terrain. Surreal experience with breath taking views. My horse was lovely and well kept. We stopped at the starbox cafe on top of the valley where we ordered some water melon juice and the keeper allowed us feed the horses the left over water melon rinds! Horses loved it. There are porter cabin toilets at the cafe and a monastery in a cave next to the cafe you can visit.
You dont need experience of riding. I would highly recommend booking through Alpino tour agency. You can google the name. Its one of the most reputable , trusted and cheapest agencies. Me and my partner did alot of research as we are visiting cappadocia for 6 days and after getting quotes from all the agents this was the best prices in capadocia. The chap there who is the agent is called Mustafa is humble honest...
