Read moreMy private tour guide and I stopped off at Love Valley, and a waypoint intended to last perhaps 15 or 20 minutes ended up lasting over an hour. I absolutely adored this location, and I feel it’s among the best panoramas in all of Cappadocia/Goreme NP.
It definitely can get busy, but don’t let that deter you. The area still provides for an incredible viewing experience, and there are ample places to sit.
There is a tiny, homey cafe/convenience store by the panorama as well, which offers basic snacks, meals, and drinks at reasonable prices. The staff working the shop were extraordinarily friendly and spoke just enough English to communicate with me. When the weather is good (which, if you’re here, it should ideally be!), sitting outside and admiring the stunning rock landscapes while munching on snacks is a great way to spend time.
The iconic, heart-shaped swing you’ll find at the edge of the overlook is a perfect, Insta-worthy selfie spot. Do be prepared to accept or decline offers to purchase a personalized printed photo that someone will surreptitiously take of you, and then show you in an attempt to entice your payment. The cost isn’t that bad in USD, and it’s an awesome souvenir, so I didn’t mind paying for my own photo and frame. Just be aware, and always feel it’s your right to decline if you choose not to keep the snapshot.
I can’t implore you enough to visit Love Valley when touring Cappadocia! It’s outstanding. Recommended to the...
Read moreLove Valley is very pretty, nice walk and amazing view at the top! ;) Love Valley is about 3 km northwest of central Göreme. It features a fantastic landscape of volcanic tuff pillars topped by basalt caps, which are suggestive of a certain part of the male anatomy. Volcanic eruptions 3 to 9 million years ago from nearby Erciyes Dağı (Mt. Erciyes) and Hasan Dağı (Mt. Hasan) deposited layers of basalt and thick beds of tuff (volcanic ash solidified into a soft rock). Since then, erosion has carved the area into a spectacular landscape of erosional forms. In places where the soft tuff is overlain by a hard lava cap there are rock towers, pillars, tent rocks and fairy chimneys standing above the gently rolling hills. These fantastic geologic forms are best seen at sunrise and sunset, when the grey volcanic tuff is lit up by peachy-golden light. There is a road-side stop overlooking Love Valley (free). A hiking trail connects Love Valley with the town of Uchisar, about 5km to the southwest. I enjoyed hiking this trail as it was uncrowded and allowed me to examine the rock formations up close. It took me about 2 hours, with lots of stops for photos and to examine some of the rooms that had been carved into the volcanic tuff. The trail was fairly flat, with occasional tunnels along small streams. There were several cafes in Uchisar for refreshments. Love Valley is open at all times with...
