Colonel Stephens Railway Museum — Local services in Ashford

A great museum covering the history of the railway building if Colonel Stephens. There's a large amount of information about the various railways he helped to build around the country, including the Kent & East Sussex Railway. There are a few model trains and displays showing various trains and layouts of stations, including a life size steam engine at the end. There's also a mini shop selling a wide range of books and models. Free parking at the station car park nearby...

Such a lovely museum! The gentleman at the desk was really helpful, informative and lovely! It's free entry, but they have a donation box when you exit the museum and there's another donation box near the train, as seen on the picture, to maintain the locomotives. Tenterden Town station is literally next to this museum, where you can see the steam locomotives or if you're taking the train from there to Bodiam. An absolute gem of a museum. I've passed here many times but never been in. Finally took the plunge and found it a really well planned out, displayed and thorough museum.

The man on the desk was really friendly and knowledgeable as well.

Will certainly be returning...
