Decided to get back into painting warhammer models again after a 30 year break I had no clue what I actually needed, I stumbled across this fantastic store Sunday morning as I didn’t fancy driving across town to the Hames Workshop. I’m so glad I did as they were so helpful with great knowledge on paint schemes for my very old collection of Space Wolves. It’s a well stocked friendly store which I’ll definitely be visiting again as it’s only 5 minutes drive from my house 😁

This tabletop gaming venue is second to none. The spacious gaming floor holds over a dozen tables that can be configured to support most gaming systems, (book on line and specify what you are playing). There are also 2 private gaming rooms for that can be booked for RP or board games.

Their hobby shop similarly stocks a wide range of systems. Though their mainstay is warhammer 40k, they also stock a range of other citadel titles like (Age of Sigmar, Aeronautica Imperialis, and Adeptus Titanicus). They also support a range of historical titles by Warlord Games; Bolt action, Cruel Seas and Blood Red Skies, to name a few. Several Dungeons and Dragons sets do also make an appearance on the shelves.

The biggest draw to BIG by far is the community. Whilst most people pre arrange games, the shop also has a huge social media presence, with groups where you can meet potential oponents/ adventuring parties:

Don't judge a book by its cover. Looks rough on the outside, but it's a real gem on the inside. Park, for free, on the road outside. Press the intercom button under the Trade Windows sign to be let in. Up the stairs, hairpin left at the top, go straight in.

Propping the door open when it's full of "nerd heat" 😆 is essential for some fresh air. The regular customers of Jim's store are also really good people.

Jim the owner is an authentic gent, proper good chap.

The space for gaming tables inside is large, and the windows open, so it doesn't suffer from the usual lack of air that so many locations do.

The shop has a marvellous range of paints from several suppliers, and they cover a multitude of role playing, wargaming and board games. Really nice shop.

My friend and I went there after booking a table in advance on their website (the best way to do that).

Remember to always buy something when you visit an independent gaming shop, let's keep them in business! 🏆

Looking forward to...

Hi there, thanks for reaching out. I think I was being unecessarily harsh with the 4 star previously given. My experiences at BIG on my couple of visits so far have been well accomodated, offering ice pops for free when it was very hot this year and then going round taking food orders. The tables are always put up with terrain in great ways with the quality of everything being top notch.

My only real reason which was harsh for not giving a 5 star previously was because i've attended other venues which are a larger and more commercial which honestly isn't something I should have faulted you on.

I appreciate you're an independant gaming shop and go to a lot of effort to accomodate and provide a fantastic service. I'm sorry to have judged you unecessarily lean and have...
