I was really looking forward to my visit with my 10 month old Daughter.
Despite being well prepared, with everything we needed, it left a lot to be desired.
There were no family parking spaces, which made getting in and out of the Car very tricky. There was only one family changing room, with a very full nappy bin.
It was also filthy! I know it's a outdoor pool which comes with challenges in regards to keeping things clean but even the basics weren't done.
There were massive cobwebs in the changing area, the floors were disgusting and the showers full of litter.
The tiling looked like it had never been cleaned on the poolside and it was just generally run down. The steps into the shallow end need replacing as not only had they never been cleaned by the look of them, the bottom one was broken which wasn't ideal when getting in and out safely with a Baby.
The toilets stank, with only one soap dispenser which was broken. There was litter everywhere, in addition to the toilets being stained with feces.
The most of the lockers didn't have the wrist straps on them and were also dirty.
I'd only go again if it had a serious deep clean!
It's not cheap to get in either, so I'm sure they could afford a cleaner.
I've given a two star review as if it was well maintained, it would be an...
Read moreIt's a stunning place to swim on a sunny day, even enjoyable when the weather is overcast... however, it's probably time they introduced a ticketing system or online booking as the expectation to queue 100 deep out into the car park on a first come first serve one out, one in policy is absolutely insane in 2019. Literally families with sad hot children sat in a car park with nothing to do for over an hour waiting to get in - it doesn't have to be like this and I can only imagine some archaic backwards committee is responsible for this. Also, the cafe shutting at the same time as the pool so no refreshments are available is a ridiculous schedule.
In a nutshell, awesome place and experience swimming in the beauty of the peak district marred by backwards management policies leading to almost pilgrimage level queues to get in. I can only imagine the disappointment some families experience if travelling there by bus only to find that they are going to be sat in a car park for a good couple of hours or worse still, unable to get in at all due to their travel restrictions.
Come on Hathersage Pool, you could be simply outstanding! It's not 1978 any more :) Get...
Read moreSecond time visitors and this time we came to swim in the middle of February, just after Storms Dudley, Eunice and Franklin. Heated pool (compared to, say, the nearby New Bath Lido which is ground heated and therefore colder at this time of year). The sign on the road boasted 28degrees but it’s clearly a permanent sign! The temperature on Tuesday and Wednesday about midday was actually about 20-21degrees - I’d like to see a sign telling us the temperature, most outdoor pools do this, if only for some sort of sadistic pleasure! We did lane swimming Tuesday and it was a mixed session with a lane on Wednesday. It was encouraging to see so many children in the pool, it was Derbyshire half term but even so, I guess we are all guilty of assuming that kids ‘these days’ are all a bit nesh! Once in the pool and swimming for literally half a length you acclimatise and it’s comfortable for swimming. The main chill happens if there’s a cold wind and obviously when you get out! This pool is a fabulous facility, we’ve now sampled it in Summer and Winter, it’s only 80minutes from Nottingham and there’s a train station in Hathersage. I’m certain we...
