Charged my partner (who was unaware of the correct price point) £25 for a 1.3kg log of Stornoway Black Pudding when everywhere else sells it for £15 max! I told him to go back inside and get his money back. I then phoned another local butcher for pricing advice, who was beyond shocked when I explained what this place were charging. He said the price was a disgrace and my partner was to go back in and get his money back. The owner/manager tried to refuse a refund at first, claiming it fell under food safety laws, utter rubbish because my partner was still stood outside after purchasing and it's a sealed product. Ended up getting his money back but clearly there's a warning to be said about this place, their pricing and their practices! Charging almost double what other butchers and shops charge for a log of Stornoway Black Pudding this size! Then he was advised to buy another cheaper brand as if he was some kind of cheapskate! If they just charged the correct standard amount that EVERYWHERE else does, they wouldn't need to advise people to buy cheaper brands! This is why people don't support their local butchers anymore and it's a shame! Practices like this tarnish the reputation. We wanted a decent local butchers but the trust has been thrown right out of the window and we will never purchase from this butchers again. If you're looking for a trust worthy butchers nearby, there are plenty in placement of this place. You just need to Google local butchers and your postcode! I have been going to this butchers for about 30 years even when I moved away from the area I still done my shopping at Masons. The staff are friendly and will give out advice on how to cook the various parts of my food shopping and how much to get depending on how many people I have to cook for. I have never been given any meat that I have not been happy with and my family look forward to there xmas dinner and there doggy bags they get for there dinner the next day. Still purchased butcher meat after mr mason died must say quality not good. In December 2024 went in to purchase chipolas,steaks and turkey stuffing as family were all contributing to provide towards xmas dinner for my large family. Thought that if they had these available to buy I would freeze to save me time. On asking for stuffing etc I was told that I could not buy them without buying the turkey told quite clearly that this was the rule, I was shocked. I have friends,family work colleugues and my work place were all customers and I mean good customers. Guess what they have all been told about there so called rules and I will not be going back.
