New Squares Penrith — Local services in Great Britain

Penrith's white eliphant. Against the wishes of the majority of Penrith residents, this development still went ahead. More out of some people having a big project on their CV's than any actual need for it. Some units have stood empty since the build opened in June 2013. The money would have been better spent on the town centre where shops had already closed and still are closing on a depressingly regular basis. The argument that we need to develop to compete with Carlisle 18 miles away does not stand up to any scrutiny. Carlisle have more shops, more investment and more choice. Penrith cannot compete with Carlisle on this level. More specialist town centre shops with smaller rents should have been the way forward. Sainsbury's commands an imposing view when entering the area and also gives the shopper 2 hours free parking (Monitored by a Private Parking Business using number plate...

What a waste of space. Total white elephant. No longer a market town with lovely little shops, cafes & restaurants. Now a SUPERMARKET town without character. Gate way to the lakes...I think not. What happened to the so called welcoming signage as you come in to the town off the Kempley roundabout... KFC rat infested dump, where they have hot chocolate on the menu but they don't do hot chocolate LOL A once pretty little town now somewhere you don't stay any longer than you have to. Unfortunately most if the staff in the shop don't have any pride in their work & boy does it show with their attitude....

The absolute best cafe I've ever used. Sorry I didn't take photos of the food but my days! Had the brunch, must have been a full tin of peas on that plate, at least 20 mushrooms, Cumberland sausage, 1/4lb burger(basic type), huge piece of bacon, perfect egg, stunning chips too. Way to much to eat and I'm 18 stone! We always stop off here when we visit Penrith. The pot of tea is huge and the staff super polite and efficient. Clean cafe but they do allow dogs in which personally I don't agree with(and I'm a dog lover). All in all you need to nip in to break up your shopping trip. Can't rate these...
