Bad food ? Don't complain and expect a refund !!
Having been a loyal customer for quite some time, we noticed that the quality of the same takeaway meal can be quite variable.
However things took a drastic turn recently, when my wife found a 1½" long piece of glass in her Lamb Tikka Masala. It was one of four meals we had purchased.
My wife - incredibly politely ! - telephoned the Raj to inform them and to let them know - for THEIR benefit. They discounted it being glass and said it was probably a bone. I could hear her constantly trying to speak in her usual calm voice before the phone went dead. She had put the phone down because she was being constantly interrupted.
I then telephoned the Raj and asked to speak to the manager.
I informed him that I would like a refund on all four meals as they had all come from the same kitchen and I was not prepared to let my family eat any of them, having found glass in one (only my wife had put her's on the plate - the others had not been inspected).
Like my wife, I was unable to complete a sentence without interruption. The manager didn't want to know. He had my money and that was it. I tried to tell him that we had been regular customers but he wasn't interested. He told me that if I wanted a refund I was to bring the meals in and they would inspect them ! Living 10 miles away I immediately rejected that offer. I suggested coming into the business the following evening for a full refund, but he wasn't interested in this. Environmental Health have been informed and I await their findings.
In the meantime, one thing is a fact - being a regular customer at The Raj counts for nothing - once they have your money you're not getting it back, bad...
Read moreMost of the food had no taste. I ordered chicken pakora as a starter and as someone who has experience in the catering industry I'm certain they brought me frozen chicken tenders that i couldnt even cut. This alone is a disgrace to Indian cuisine.
I went on to order a house special biryani. It had no flavour and just spice (which I specifically requested so minimal credit given for that.)
While I was eating, my plate got taken away before I could even respond to say I wasn't done so I had to finish eating out of the dish it was served in. I only stayed because we were short on time and hungry since we were only stopping in Penrith briefly. I have been to a lot of Indian restaurants and this may be the worst, especially since everyone seemed to adore it since they likely don't know better due to it being the only local Indian restaurant.
I was about to fill out the recommend section then realised I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy.

Read moreWell, I don’t know wether to share this or not but I will as a warning. Ordered 2 curry’s, Chicken Tikka, Chicken Korma, 2 Rice & 2 Nan Breads online and paid on the site. Sounds good and easy, went to collect it got there, gave name, no, no order received. I was a-bit taken aback to say the least. Lovely Guy at desk very helpful and asked where my receipt was on my phone showed him lo and behold, sure enough I had ordered the above but alas in Epping I could of sworn I had the correct website so please be aware as it is easily done but no point in crying over spilt milk or curry’s in Epping. (Eek ) so reordered in Penrith you get a discount of 15% off if you order directly online which I did with supervision very reasonable at £17.42, did not have to wait long for our order got it home and it was delicious and still hot after a 15 minute drive and would...
