Having felt unwell and suffering from stroke symptoms I called 999 and an ambulance arrived from the initial contact I found it difficult to communicate and felt trapped inside my own head as I was struggling to talk and loosing sensation in my left arm, the ambulance crew were amazing and very experienced and made me feel not so frightened and reassured me that I had done the correct thing by calling 999
I was taken straight to a triage area at North Tees and then onto a CT scan whilst a bed was made available on the specialist ward 41, the doctor was very thorough and explaining all that was going on
On reception to ward 41 I was taken into a private room and seen by several nurses and a consultant who explained that I had complicated symptoms but it would be worth administering the Stroke medication as this had a low risk value. After about 12 hours I started to feel better and improved but with a very painful headache all that evening I was monitored regularly by nurses and a young doctor
The next morning I was visited by another consultant that again gave me a thorough exam and then recommended a CT scan or if possible a MRI scan to confirm no complications after the medication and to make sure all was well with my brain and no permanent damage
Later also visited by a physiotherapist and a speech therapist that again put me through my paces and gave me a clean bill of health
The service from all staff has been exemplary and my faith in the NHS has been restored
Outstanding Service and patient care...
Read moreI have been under North Tees Hospital for over 4 years. My primary contact has been with the podiatry and urgent foot care clinic. The other department I have dealings with is ward 36 were I stayed for as an inpatient on two occasions and the plaster room. I have also used various other departments such has X Ray, MIRI, blood testing and the diabetic nurse and doctor and finally the specialist footwear department. So, as you can see, I have numerous involvements with this hospital in various departments. I almost forgot to mention the urgent care admissions. What I can say about the hospital is they have performed extremely well and well beyond my expectations. The staff I have been in contact with are all professional and caring. I have attended for numerous appointments, and all have been on time. The staff do a brilliant job and they do so under immense pressure. The hospital is an extremely busy environment and regardless of the difficulties all the staff perform brilliantly. I am an incredibly happy patient and to be honest I have lived in numerous locations in my life, and this hospital outperforms the other hospitals of the other areas I have resided. I would like to pay a special thank you to the urgent foot care team and Mr. Mackenney for the support and wonderful care provided in the many times I have seen them. As a team under Mr. Mackenney you do a first-class job. Your team is the best I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. I cannot say thank you enough times for all the help you...
Read moreDirty, disgusting and disorganised! My mum (83) was in and out of hospital over a period of approximately 6 weeks with the most severe diarrhoea. Hospital never found out the cause. Staff never talked to each other, to my mum or to her family. She was on a covid ward and was left unwashed for 28 hours (with diarrhoea intensely bad). Her bottom was red raw but nobody looked at it to put a barrier cream on after eventually washing her. She was even made to sit on a commode for hours with her buzzer out of reach but in desperation, phoned me from her mobile to explain so I then had to phone the ward to demand that somebody went to see her!!!! On another occasion when she asked for the commode and assistance to get on it, she was shouted at by a nurse who got quite aggressive with my mum. When we complained to person in charge the next day, we were told that they knew who it would have been who acted like that and they would not be allowed back on the ward!!!!!! She is diabetic and I found out that the staff had 'forgotten' this fact and, once she was starting to feel a little better were giving her full access to everything on the menu including trifles, toast and jam etc etc - then wondering why her blood sugar levels were going up so high!! She was treated like a dog and lost a lot of weight (2.5 stone we now realise) but the hospital had no idea how much as they had forgotten to record her weight! God help you if you are...
