I recently had the opportunity to visit the local fish and chip shop, and while there were some positives, there were also a few negatives that stood out.
Let's start with the negatives. Firstly, the fish itself was disappointingly thin, resembling more of a fish finger than a substantial piece of fish. Additionally, the batter on the fish was unfortunately burnt, which detracted from the overall enjoyment of the meal. It is important for the batter to be cooked to perfection, as it adds that crucial crunch and flavour to the fish.
On the positive side, the mushy peas served at the fish and chip shop were quite tasty. They had a nice texture and complemented the meal well. The bread cake, too, was fresh and added a delightful touch to the overall dining experience. Finally, the chips were well-cooked and had a nice crispiness to them, which is always a key factor in a good fish and chip meal.
However, it was disheartening to learn that the server was unaware of which fish was lightly battered. This lack of knowledge can lead to confusion and disappointment for customers who prefer a specific type of batter. It would be beneficial for the staff to be trained and informed about the different batter...
Read moreAfter an afternoon visiting Howarth, home of the Brontë sisters, we fancied a chippie tea and had heard good reviews about Greenside mainly as they cook in beef dripping! Tiny little chip shop but oh my goodness, fab service and top marks for food! Freshly cooked to order on fish and some other options so you’re asked when you enter what you’d like. Means a little wait but so worth it. I had a medium fish, chunky white flesh really soft and tasty but it’s the batter! Dark brown in colour and delicious. Chips are old style, takes me back to my childhood eating beef dripping chips out of newspaper all wet with vinegar! They use a vintage vinegar too so the chips are soft inside, crispy outside and taste fantastic. Thoroughly enjoyed our chippie tea! Really good value for money. Medium fish chips and curry sauce (don’t judge me!) was...
Read moreI go and get fish and chips from here quite often and its an extreamly pleasent experience, staff are always lovely and the quality of the food never dissapoints. Sometimes it can get slightly crowded, but that is not their fault which is why I've only deducted one star for atmosphere as when it is busy in there it can be quite an uncomfortable space to be in, but they only have little room in there to work with. Staff are always really nice and accomodating, especially if you need to use separate methods of payment, even when the card machine was broken they still managed to keep the buisness up and...
