We visited with another couple on Friday night for a table booking at 7.15; the first time we’d eaten here so we weren’t sure what to expect. The first thing we noticed was the atmosphere, it has a really nice midway feel between a bar and restaurant, which could be irritating if not pulled off properly but it worked very well. The menu has some really great items on, and love the addition of a changing “chefs experiment”. What really stood out for me was the service, every person we interacted with was lively, professional and made the experience feel very personal. I have some interesting dietary requirements but felt really comfortable asking our waiter what could be accommodated, and the chef did a wonderful job of making the dish suitable for me. Our table chose the pork belly (which is excellent and served with the best crackling I’ve ever had!), the burger and a pie - everyone was really happy with their food and the presentation was wonderful.
We’ll be going back here for sure as it’s walking distance from home. Make sure you allow time for your food to be prepared and remember you’re not in Wetherspoons - everything is clearly made scratch fresh so it naturally takes longer.
My only criticism is that our table was quite close to the door and on this occasion cigarette smoke blew into the area a little, but I’m sure had I mentioned it at the time they would have fixed that for us.
I think we’ll head back on steak night or over lunchtime next and try some different items. Looking...
Read moreWhen we booked we hadn't realised it was a French Tasting menu night. The chef told us what dishes to expect and the cost. Taster menus are not really my thing but my wife quite likes them so we decided to give it a go. I am not a fussy eater but I personally would not have chosen any of the dishes from an a la carte menu. Started with French onion soup which was to me more like a thick onion gravy, then Steak tartare which although tender didn't really have much flavour, followed by baked camembert which tasted nice but a whole cheese only came with a small piece of bread each (maybe we could have asked for more). Main was Duck with an orange sauce but the skin was not all crispy and the copious fat had not rendered down. very chewy meat. It came with sliced potatoes which had the texture of soggy crisps. The final course was raspberry souffle but looked & tasted as though it had never been near a raspberry. It was therefore over-sweet and was also curdled. We gave feedback at the time on what we thought was wrong with each dish and were given a free drink at the end. We wouldn't go there again if this was the usual...
Read moreFabulous Food!!! Met up for a family reunion and had the best meal I've had for months. Most of the group had the Sunday roast option with Yorkshire puddings that were 'superb'. Two of us had the pan fried sea bass which was beautifully cooked and presented. I was so impressed with my main course I HAD to have a sweet and was not disappointed. I chose the 'Passionfruit, chocolate dippy egg with brioche soldiers'.....no knowing what to expect. The toasted brioche was cut in to fingers stacked neatly by the side of a realistic looking white choc egg filled with a sublime passionfruit custard. The sweet was completed with a small dark choc spoon. Not only did this look good, but it tasted amazing. (My only regret is I didn't take photos). I can highly recommend 7 Steps for food and ambience......I just wish I...
