The Royal — Restaurant in Leeds

Honestly the worst venue I have ever had the privilege of entering. Organised a gender reveal party in their upstairs room, £50 for the room and a £150 deposit. On arrival the 1st problem was the shared toilet had no lock so anyone could walk in on you (women and children were at this party) so I find this highly unacceptable. The upstairs bar only had flat coors on offer as they had no gas ready. The 1st people who ordered were waiting 30 minutes for a drink as they hadn’t set the bar up. One of my guests asked if they could order food but were told that because we didn’t ask for catering we couldn’t order from their menu either…. Strange one but fair enough. What annoyed me was being approached by a member of staff and being made to feel like my guests had done something wrong for asking a simple question. There was no music for the 1st 90 mins then they kept turning it off and on. We finally heard a full song played through as we were leaving. We were told we could take the balloons home the next day, but as I was walking down the street from the pub I got a phone call from one of my guests. I was informed that unless we remove the balloons right now we would lose our £150 deposit. When I arrived back at the pub I found one of my pregnant guests had been made to carry everything down the stairs! Not good! I entered the premises to let them know I was unhappy and that I would like deposit back there and then. So they barred me for being aggressive (trust me, if I was aggressive they would know) the next morning we received a phone call saying that they were withholding £30 from our deposit because it took the cleaners 2 hours to remove food stains. Funny because we didn’t have catering and your staff refused to let my guests order food. So we paid them £50 for an unprepared room, put hundreds of pounds behind their bar, did all the glass collecting throughout the event and they have the audacity to try withhold even more money from a couple expecting their 1st child. P.s we were told as we left that the room was fine and we didn’t need to sort anything else out! There were more problems as well but even writing about my disappointment with place is upsetting. One of the best pubs in Pudsey. Family and pets friendly, and you always feel welcome there. Great place to meet friends, have a drink after work, listen to a great music, watch footy, have a delicious Sunday roast, or to celebrate your birthday or any other special occasion. I was first introduced to this place by my good friend almost 10 years ago and visited many times since. This Thursday they organised a send off for my dear friend, the best send off one could wish for, with The mighty Cardinals playing great music. I have Visited the Royal on several occasions with husband and family. Love the Sunday roasts and recently had a mixed meat Roast dinner platter for two with Yorkshire puddings which was very nice and an extra jug of gravy. There is a great selection of hot and cold Traditional English puddings for dessert. Good range of Drinks at average price. Cosy pub with a fireplace friendly atmosphere and staff friendly..
