Mahavir Sweet Mart — Local services in London

Been going here for years and went a lot during the lockdown period. Two experiences have now unfortunately put us off.

First time was when we arrived around 20mins before the shops advertised online closing time and they wanted to shut early. They tutted and made us feel unwelcome even though we were buying un-heated curries that took 1 minute to grab from the back. (Also to point out here, this shop seems to close when it wants, so sometimes we arrive before 6pm, for the shop to be shut).

Secondly, when we went today my partner ordered 2 curries without rice or bread. He was asked if he wanted bread or rice and said no. When he paid there was only 50p difference without having rice or bread. Went back inside to ask about this and the shop worker abruptly told him that he was asked if he wanted rice and he said no, if he wants it now it would be another £2 each. Would have just been polite of them to say that it's only 50p difference when we paid or just let us add it on after considering we obviously didn't know and this wasn't advertised.

I know that this shop was very strict with the covid measures, so I waited outside having forgotten my mask just to be polite (didnt try to go in). Seems as if the shop workers cannot return this politeness to their, now ex, regular customers. Plenty more polite and tasty vegetarian indian shops within 30...

Was going to this local place for years as the food is absolutely lovely but it got to the point where this was completely offset by how rude and obnoxious the man behind the counter is. Extremely impatient and condescending on countless occasions and just not nice to be dealing with in any capacity, let alone from someone who you are handing over your hard earned cash to! Lessons to be learnt from management - don't bite the hand that feeds you. Customer service is key, that's what keeps people coming back so think twice before you treat them like the dirt underneath your shoes. I really miss the food but unfortunately I will not be returning as the experience of dealing with the counter assistant is just too stressful and unpleasant.

Editing after response from owner: Clearly a case of sour grapes here as they are banning me after I clearly stated I wouldn't be returning in the first place. Your zero abuse policy is nowhere near fit for purpose then and needs reviewing. You have no evidence or examples of me behaving inappropriately. Very disappointed in the lack of customer service. Called them up half an hour before going there to find out if they had any Jelebi and Dhokra left.. I was told they run out of everything and they rushed of the phone before I could even ask them anything else. As we were in the area (we live 45mins away) and have been told their food is good we thought we would pop in either way and see what they did have left, only to find out that they did have Jelebi left and a whole tray of Dhokra. When questioned their reason for saying nothing was left because apparently they were really busy. Being busy does not mean you say you dont have anything left. They could have said we do have some but it's running out fast. They started getting defensive and we also felt rushed in buying what we wanted. Food is ok but the quality of service ruins it, not worth the travel or time to go there. They also broke Covid19 rules by allowing another impatient customer to come in behind us to collect their order, when it clearly states only 2 people allowed...
