(A very detailed review)
We celebrated our dads 70th birthday back in October 2024, and we honestly had the best time!
Both the manager and staff were all lovely, accommodating and ensured they delivered an excellent service throughout - nothing seemed too much to ask from them.
Each member was friendly, welcoming, and went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable and were receiving a good service from them. I also observed that their team regularly stayed in communication, and worked in union with each other throughout the party and also with our MC, to ensure they were on hand to help when needed, esp. to help move tables to accommodate performances we had. We received and appreciated the help from each team member who set up tables & chairs and also helped to set the table decor when we were short for time
*Below is a detailed overall review gathered from the celebrant and closest family:
Very flexible. We could have outsourced the food and drinks, but agreed to their buffet menu, and only outsourced the Jollof and fish that they were ok for us to bring, as well as our own drinks and water, including the Ghaniaan local drinks (like Sobolo) that were served in traditional 'drums'.
Everything else was cooked in-house, which we had a taster meal before we decided to use their buffet service.
They also allowed us to keep our drinks stored in their refrigerators the night before the party - which we thought was a lovely touch to the service they provide.
The food service: For the Menu, we opted for the Caribbean Buffet instead of the set and seated Caribbean Style menu option to fall within our budget.
For the Buffet, we chose curry mutton, jerk chicken (instead of fried chicken); vegan curry and vegetable ratatouille; we replaced rice - peas with Jollof rice; coconut & tumeric rice with petit pois and sweetcorn; traditional coleslaw and mixed green salad. They flexibly allowed us to exchange plain basmati rice for fried plantain, and their fish for the day (Grilled Escovitch Fish Fillet) for our own - as it was a little pricey for the number of guest we were inviting outsourced our own versus our budget.
The venue hire was £3000 for 6 hours (3-9pm) but open for set up from 11 am on the day. We brought our own DJ, who had his own PA system, and also had our own live band (Joyful Way).
Decorations and table designs were done by family and friends on the day, as well as the unbeatable back - drop view of London City Aiport.
Toilets were kept clean throughout the day, and tables were cleared away once it was clear guests had finished eating.
Room for improvement:
•Signposting to the boat is pretty much non-existent from the security gate to the venue; so a couple of guests got lost particulalry on their way out in the dark of night, who found themselves close to the water front.
Some reflective signs and lighting at night would be a great improvement to enhance the experience from start to end.
• There's also a need to improve the gravelling at the car park neaerer the boat where there were multiple pot holes - it would help for guests wearing certain types of shoes.
• Uniform could be introduced, esp. when considering the venue being used for different types of events, such as corporate events. However, the team all wore black, but perhaps all could wear the same type of shirt and length of skirt as an example.
Lastly, we had a guest complain on their way to the boat, that the Security Gateman didn't seem to be aware of our event and wouldn't raise the barrier for a long time - it would be a good idea for the security guard to have a schedule for events taking place.
Sorry this review is way overdue. We 'simply' had no regrets about having our event at the...
Read moreI visited the Tereza Joanne boat on Tuesday 4 October 2022, for the Cockney Matinee event. This was my second visit to the boat because last year I had a great time dancing on my 60th birthday to an Abba tribute band! The coach drop off point is a short walk through what is basically a building site, as this area of the London Docks is under a regeneration process. The flat metal gangplank is easy to negotiate even for people with walking frames. There is a large accessible disabled toilet before you go through to the dining area. Here there are tables and chairs grouped around a small "stage" area where the performance took place. There is a licensed bar at one end of the boat and quite steep stairs going down to male and female toilets . However as I have reduced mobility , I opted to use the disabled toilet option. We were served a pie and mash lunch. Unfortunately, the performance, mostly comprised a single performer in a Pearly King costume on a small keyboard that wasn't to my taste but the rest of my coach party who were approximately 20 years older than myself, had a great flag waving time! Fortunately, there is a sound proofed sheltered outside area with padded rattan garden furniture where you can see the planes coming into land over the dock on the way to City airport. This is also a smoking area so children are not permitted here. It was nice seeing the same friendly staff from last year. I even had a long chat with a "server" who turned out to be one of the owners of the boat, at the tender age of...
Read moreTereza Joanne is a spot in the docklands that's not popular enough. Its mindblowing location means that whether inside or on the top deck you can experience a take off or landing of one of the many aircrafts that operate at London City Airport as you're in full view of the runway. The Thames also meets its banks infront of the boat too that the scenery and views remind you of being on holiday by the ocean, the sunsets are phenomenal. Due to COVID-19 they are offering food services in the form of a restaurant FROOTTREE and the food is luscious and delicious. They have a Sunday Roast menu thats not only affordable but the food is made to precision, their nibbles and appetisers are unique and decadent everyone needs to indulge on them especially the Satlfish and plantain balls and the mac and cheese balls which you don't get on most menus. The main meals include a bit of Afro-caribbean menus with your classic mutton curry. Then you have some grill menus based on sea and mainland options i.e fish and chicken.
The chef and kitchen staff are amazing and you can see the precision in the detailing of the food, how its made how its presented it literally is a Mitchelin style approach but down to earth and with a relaxed vibe whilst maintaining affordable pricing which l think this venue should be flooded honestly for that reason, and not mention the breathtaking views around it.
You have to try the dessert menu too omg the raspberry cheesecake with cream is to die for, both light but decadent its indulgence at its...
