Donnington Bridge — Local services in Oxford

One of the great bridges of the city... almost ruined by over-engineered Byzantine bike lanes. 😒

Looks good from the river, with some college graffiti and an excellent cycle path underneath (west side of the river). Also has two ramps each side of the bridge (north and south on the west side) that allow you to easily cycle up onto the bridge.

Where it goes wrong is on the bridge itself. A normal southside cycle lane... but with a messy two way lane enclosed with concrete bollards. A mess. Plus the concrete bollard lanes are very confusing on the East side of the bridge, where they go onto the pavement then simply disappear. Stupid system and highly confusing. Been there for years and never fixed. 😤

Overall: good Under the Bridge, not so much on top. Quite sure Red Hot Chilli Peppers would not have wrote such such a great song were this bridge...

A fab evening session on the paddleboard in Oxford with Moi.

Launching from Donnington Bridge, a nice paddle along the River Cherwell. Not too much current to contend with so really pleasant to gently navigate the river. Added bonus was Moi in tour guide mode getting us to look up and take in the surroundings :-)
