After returning home to Australia after our third trip to Iffley I wanted to share my experience of pub life in a small English village. As a rule I don't read reviews before trying a pub, so I was somewhat intrigued by the reviews for the POW on this page. Most seemed very genuine in their praise, but the few negative ones had a ring of another agenda about them. Unless you had been really badly treated or poisoned why would you whinge about a place when there are better things in life? Having said that, most reviewers like to share positive experiences, and this has got to be one of the best pubs in the UK in a country renowned for great pubs. Spoilt for choice in Iffley Village, The POW is a great experience in terms of exceptional staff, first rate meals if you are looking to dine out, and a welcoming feeling the minute you step through the door. They catered for my wife's special dietary needs without fuss, and fed my cousins to complete satisfaction. I developed an addiction for their fish cakes and ale and beef pies after a few of visits, and have taken home some great memories of dropping in for a quiet beer only to be ambushed by the staff who always seemed to know how to keep me there. I simply wish to say thank you to the POW for making our stay in Iffley such a pleasant one, and I look forward to more visits...

The strongest recommendation that I could ever offer! I booked two weeks ago to reserve a table for six, unfortunately one of us couldn't make the reservation and I can tell you that they definitely missed out on the best Sunday lunch going!

I've spent more on Sunday lunch in the past but this is hands down the best Sunday roast I've had in recent memory! Brilliant value! Roast potatoes are often either crispy and bland or they're soggy and over-seasonsed, the potatoes on my plate tonight were a perfect level of crisp and the caliber of seasoning was second to none!

I ordered the chicken which came with a brilliant array of vegetables and cauliflower cheese which was to die for! You can tell that their chef gives a lot of thought and care into their food. Even though I'm not a fan of gravy, the flavours complemented the dish meaning that I could forget I was consuming something I wouldn't normally eat!

The front of house staff and their service was impeccable. They made us feel welcome and their attention to detail certainly didn't go unnoticed! I hope I can visit this pub again soon and try their standard menu in the middle of the week!

A local gem I would highly recommend if you ever have the privilege of...

Entered the pub quiz, thought it would be a lovely experience for my retired elderly father who was over joyed with the prospect of having an outing. Unfortunately this seems like a local pub for local people. We were not only shouted at by the locals in there for not swapping the quiz papers on time, baring in mind this was our first time playing. It was a hostile environment to say the least.

We were over the moon to see we had won with a score of 45 but then we were told we had not won and the players who scored lower than us (the locals) had won. When asked why, we were told the manager chooses who wins.

It's a real shame to be treated with such disregard and injustice. This is definitely a local pub for local people with a nasty vibe, men that shout at young women and total disregard for the safety of loan women. You will never win the quiz it seems it's all planned and a sham from the begining.

A shame as the pub much potential. Do not go it's unsafe, injust and unfriendly.

Stick with the delights of the more welcoming atmosphere of the Isis or Rusty Bicycle where quizzes are played fairly and old men do not...

Dreadfull lunch £7.99 for a cheese and ham sandwich which must of cost all of a pound to make My 12 year old daughter could do better 2 slices of thin ham you buy in a packet from sainsbury Some grated cheese ontop Slightly toasted thin sliced bread which was served with the above with no mayo salad cream pickle butter It was like eating Ghandis flip flops Slow service on arrival Slow bringing the food out Just a rubbish lunch If your charging 8 quid for a sarnie atheist offer wholemeal bread and white cut bread by hand or thick cut. Proper slices of butchers Ham Decent lumps of cheese Condiments No cutlery Few chips ( no sauces ) Try the Tree Hotel this is Grim

Three of us enjoyed roast chicken dinner and a roast lamb dinner for Sunday lunch today. The Six X beer was apparently excellent as was the non-alcohokic Fentiman's zero sugar ginger beer. The food came ready plated, with cooked beetroot, parsnip, carrots and crispy roast potatoes, with a delicious, thick gravy and a large Yorkshire pudding on each. Service was fast and polite. We particularly liked the latte coffees. If the weather had been kinder, we would have sat outside in the outdoor area, where there was some glorious planting.

Too embarrassed to ask for a refund. Took a punt dropping in here with my partner post river walk - the pint wasn’t half bad however the food was indescribable. The sourdough was in fact, Aldi special, white bread with a slab school dinner butter to slop over it to hide the abysmal quality. Piece of salmon as big as a toe lying on a bed of wet samphire (not sure if it was grass) was beyond disappointing and the sweetcorn fritter was effectively a deep fried raw dough ball. Awful. Arguably some of the worst food that we have ever had.
