We were keen to try Green Routes as it's local to us and always has a queue outside. There was a short wait to get a table, 15 mins tops, which was fine with us (and many others, as there was a queue). Inside the cafe is nicely decorated with a lovely atmosphere, a cosy place to shelter from the rain. Unfortunately the experience wasn't great.
Half our drinks order was wrong and one hot drink wasn't hot and had to be sent back.
The food was disappointing. The menu for brunch was quite limited, including 4 variations of a vegan burger with an English muffin, a sloppy Joe, french toast, pancakes, hash browns or a roast.
We ordered two muffins and two pancakes, and asked for hash browns but were told they were out and that the replacement was tater tots.
The muffins were totally disappointing. They were basic, dry, and the patty was chewy and tasteless. The bacon jam was tasty but there wasn't enough of it. They also came with hash browns in them, which we found funny. Ironically it was called the Royale. The tater tots were forgotten, and arrived after 2 reminders after our plates had been cleared.
The pancakes were good. The pancakes themselves were light and fluffy. The sauce was good but a little sickly. It would have been nice to have a bit more fruit, as overall it was super heavy.
For 4 people, £40 for brunch isn't bad at all, but we feel it was quite over-hyped. We didn't see any of the food in the other reviews, which looks better than the...
Read moreFriendly staff seated me. I was really hoping for a healthy lunch and I can see the other great reviews, so I assume I just caught them on a bad day. I received a salty burger inside a dry bun with a dollop of ketchup, surrounded by fried kid's tater tots. I honestly thought I was the victim of a prank. I do remember the staff saying something about missing some ingredients, but I'd rather they recommend something else.
I was so baffled, I didn't think to take photos, check the menu to remind myself what was actually listed, etc. I don't like leaving bad reviews and I don't like complaining in restaurants, but I very apologetically explained the situation to the staff and suggested I pay half for the uneaten meal. They suggested 'maybe you made a mistake when you were choosing' (maybe... is the Breakfast Bap a kind of joke menu choice for the unwitting?), but asked me not to pay anything and were pleasant and somewhat apologetic when I left.
I love to find nice eating spots and remember this place as Oxfork, then a TSK spin off. It has a nice vibe and will generally get people through the door even if the food is average. Your luck may be different, but I got beige greasy sub-Happy Meal...
Read moreWe found this on our bike ride and were looking for a place where the bikes would be safe, served coffee and vegetarian food. We were very happy to see this cafe that ticks all the boxes and more. The front is small with benches outside and a window for people to buy coffee/food to take away or eat in the front (we saw many with pets who do that) and inside is a 3 level area with coffee machines/cakes/croissants on display.
There is a good choice of sandwiches or vegan burgers. The coffee was strong and was a much needed pick up and asked for the Royale which is a vegan patties and another potato like with caramelised onions.
Very friendly staff and definitely recommend to check out the place if you...
