Allaway Grill — Local services in Portsmouth

I have been using Allaway Grill for a few years now, at least once a week, sometimes twice. I've ordered by various methods, their app, phone and just walking in. Their app and phone method allows collection or home delivery. The staff have always been very polite and understanding, and if you have a allergy or intolerance to a ingredient just let them know, they do know their foods and the ingredients very well. Portion sizes have always been enough that when the kids pinch some I still have plenty to fill me up. What I do like about this location is that it is an open kitchen, so you can see much of the preparation, working, cooking and packing areas which helps build customer confidence. Some of their quicker preprepare foods you can view in their fridge area that today (on quite a hot day) displayed a temperature of 1 degC, well within the FSA temperature limit, and those foods are separated and covered. They use the recyclable pizza, fish and chip boxes and paper wrapping, as well as the less easy to recycle food grade polystyrene flip lids containers. They have switched to more recyclable materials recently which has been nice to see. Depending on how busy they are in the shop, delivery and collection can be straight after cooking or a little wait. What is good is because they are open nearly all day is that you can make an order and have it delivered at a later time. Eg. I order a meal for three at 3pm and ask for it to be delivered at 5pm, I'm not watching the clock waiting for them to open, and come 5pm the meal is delivered, it's brilliant! As I write this, their FSA rating is 4*, this is average for the area and I've never felt it should be lower and am happy to consume foods from here. Their prices are about right in my opinion, this is evident given they have a steady flow of customers. They have competition with nearby takeaways, but I feel they can survive this as they will have a loyal customer base and specialise in foods they know very well. A word about the phone app, it is very concise, pizzas can be ordered with menus for different bases and extra toppings. You get a confirmation email/text, and often the 'time till completed' countdown is fairly accurate, but don't rely on it, it's just a guide. But menu wise the app is very well laid out and hasn't crashed once yet. I tend to use it quite a lot. Apart from preparing the chilled foods mentioned, I've never had, nor even seen foods cooked and left on a hot plate for hours untill a customer wants them (pizza, fish, chips, burger, scampi, sausage etc) such as you would find in a fish and chip shop. Everything I've seen cooked has been freshly cooked to order. For delivery, once your order reaches a minimum price, delivery is free, you pay the same as you would if you collect it or walked in of the street and ordered it. I ordered food sat down waiting for my food while I was waiting I kept getting fruit flys land on me! I looked over to a table there was about 20 flys on the table I stood up and looked at white wall behind me there was hundreds of fruits flys on the wall it was disgusting I have never experience this I in any other take away I walk over to the food cabinet there was dead flies on the silver trays with raw kebabs there was also flies flying in the food cabinet which I pointed out to manager I said to the manager I am not eating here he said what am I ment to do they coming from out side no they are not out side this is due to lack of hygiene rotten ! food sick disgusting place I will never eat there again someone will get seriously Ill gross vile place please don't...

(the one star is for the receptionist) Very poor service placed a order waited a hour called to check to be told the order was on its way, then had a phone call ten minutes later from what I could make out as the owner to say u didnt place a order as he had no ticket with my address on. Informed the manager that I spoke to the receptionist (who can recall me placing a order) all he was bothered about was asking where is my ticket! He offered me a free bottle of drink and would send my order out but it could be another half hour at this point I had already waited a hour and a half, very poor service receptionist was very friendly and helpful as she could be and apologised the manager on the other hand was very unhelpful considering it was there fault!
