Wedged somewhere between an industrial estate, a railway line, and a small distance from a GCHQ outpost is this little nature reserve that has a mix of trees and water, amounting to a small lake, and plenty of pathways between it. I saw plenty of dragonflies doing their thing this 2021 summer - a pair of swans, and it was very peaceful considering the nearby seafront was as busy as it has been in years. It's certainly worth a visit if you're half an hour away, you like a little walk or check the map to think up any preferred custom choice of route. Without measuring it, I'd guess you can walk 30 minutes - 90 minutes using different paths without covering the...

We live close to Burton Riggs and it used to be a daily walk round with the dog (on a lead) admiring the wildlife, birds and wild flowers. However it has now turned into a camp site with even tents on the bird islands (no birds now) and at least 6 fishermen who leave rubbish and line and hooks on the beaches.Every day another bonfire and broken saplings . Please could someone DO something to return it to the peace and quiet it once was.It is no longer a...

Sadly this place has been spoiled by inconsiderate dog owners and lazy people who can't take their litter home. The entrance to the reserve is pepperd with dog mess and some areas of the lake have drinks cans and other rubbish in them. Also, some areas of the footprint are so overgrown with nettles and thorns that they are almost impossible. The saving grace is the back end of the reserve which is nice and peaceful and a bit tidier/cleaner than the...

Lovely place to have a fairly quiet walk, though the proximity of an A road means it's not completely silent. It was fairly flooded and sections were iced over when I went, which the birds seemed to enjoy as landing strips! Definitely bring some wellies if there's been rain, as it can get quite boggy.

Beautiful and serene. The water can be so still it is like glass and stunning reflections can be seen. Lots of ducks, a few swans, geese and rabbits. There is a choice of three routes - short, medium and longer. Very safe for well behaved dogs as it is enclosed.
