Weardale is our escape; where my hubby and I feel free. A Nature Reserve as far as the eye can see with wildlife. Today i photographed rabbits by their burrows in Rookhope. As I need to use a wheelchair ♿️ hiking unfortunately unable to do. My/our happiness is beginning in Shotley Bridge to Stanhope,which is a lovely place for shops &the Pennine surrounding. Rookhope is our favourite,remote and in a valley upon a valley; we go off road to the peak on top & the views are amazing. We go to Allenheads (Hexham) back in Weardale on route via cowshill, St Peters chapel to Stanhope and Walsingham. We stop off at different places on our route. Read moreI have waxed lyrical about this beautiful and interesting valley in the past; my regard and respect for it over the years has not waned after my most recent circular walk based on Stanhope. Beginnnig with the climb to Jollybody farm over the field to Shittlehope Burn and up on to the Edge, a rough old moorland hike to Pit House and down to Frosterley. Across the river and through the old quarry to reach the Bollihope Burn. The walk along the Burnside is full of interest: the outcrop of Frosterley Marble, the old lead mining workings, limekilns, waggonway and sylvan countryside.
