The tow path between, Portland Basin, Ashton-u-Lyne and Uppermill provides a great way to see some beautiful scenery and wildlife. Attractions en route include the museum at Portland Basin and various old mills, some of which are still in use but not as their original purpose. Wooden mill has some services for visitors including a cafe, check for opening times before you travel if you intend visiting. The route is accessible for visitors who have accessibility issues. There are no toilets except for those in pubs. Uppermill itself has a variety of shops, pubs and restaurants. Explore the side streets too for shops and also to look at the...

Fantastic canal walk we walked from Well I hole campsites to Uppermill and then to Mossley. My partner even managed to help a narrow boat through a set of locks which she thoroughly enjoyed. The locks are quite deep so caution needs to be taken. There are paths on both sides of the canal at some points and a couple of pubs to enjoy a refreshing drink as you...
