OK, its a small market - but it has been going for several hundred years now! The market is on Tuesdays and Saturdays only. There is stall for shoes, vacuum cleaner spare parts, hats/gloves/socks, a very good bread/samosas/cakes stall, watch repair and batteries, and a single fruit and veg stall. The fruit and veg stall has a wide selection - but the guys serving can be a bit...brusque, even rude. If you're a tourist from continental Europe (or Australia/NZ/Canada, or Asia - or pretty much anywhere in the world except USA) , don't bother asking for anything in "kilos" as they have no idea what you're talking about - and woe betide anyone who's vernacular isn't Essex. But don't worry - a lot of the produce they sell is by number, rather than weight - so pick up the number of items you want, pay quickly, and don't say anything, don't ask any questions - or you'll get an earful of Imperial...

Went on a good tour of the market on a Saturday. It was meant to be grazing... But we were handed so much to eat that it filled.me for breakfast and lunch. Full of history and full of food stalls that have been resident for so long. The fish stall / open air restaurant is just a superb place to indulge. Shout out to the deli, cheese man, the natural foods stall, the oil and vinegar stall, the gut food stall and the olive stall! All were just lovely. Will now visit more often and preferably early. Thank you to Rachel H for the tour which starts at the tourist info centre. It was a pure delight and indulgence. Loved...

I have a small complaint which is about seating in the square in market days I’m a pensioner with copd and therefore can’t walk far with out a rest with social distancing there’s at times only room for one or two on a bench so I’m astounded on Saturday there was two bench seats covered up by a stakeholder selling plants does this mean the elderly are not welcome on the market now as the disabled parking spots are also remove as the market area seems to be closed off at all times leaving just the common car park to use which again is quite a long walk for elderly people i think this is something that needs...

Surprise find for us. Went to Audley End house and went into Saffron Walden to see St. Mary's church and just stumbled upon the market and the lovely town. Loads of fresh produce, fish and baked goods. We walked around the village for a bit, marveling at the old 13th century architecture. We will definitely be back for a visit.

Wonderful artisanal stalls selling outstanding local produce. Everything from delicious baked goods to the freshest fruit. There is also British-sourced seafood from slightly further afield. Saturday’s market is more complete than Tuesdays but you should make time to pop in if you are passing by.
