Waffle+Coffee = The New Kid on the Block, and it deserves its spot! In a town like Saffron Walden we’re lucky enough to have a choice when it comes to independent coffee shops serving specially selected small batch coffee from local roasteries, but this one brings its own unique take on that offering to the High Street, and it’s not just about the waffles! Already being a convert to all things sweet and savoury waffles it didn’t take much for me to decide to try out the new spot - the ladies behind the Waffle+Co brand are taking the waffle-world by storm and it makes us wonder why it’s taken so long for all of us to catch up on this craze. Their signature waffles are already a well established go-to whereever they pop up, so other converts and new punters can expect the same and even better at their new cafe and bistro. I had the Veggie Garden Breakfast (deliciously fresh and comforting - the waffle “toast” crisp to the last bite) and a Mocha (best I’ve had) and will definitely be back for more as it’s not just waffles on offer there and I can’t wait to see what the bistro brings… There’s loads to offer for the people who love a staple, to veggies, vegans, GFs, kids (highchairs available), etc., and all the prices and portions were reasonable, in my opinion. Highly recommend popping down to see for yourself!

Waffle The savoury waffles were not overly sweet. With a generous amount of toppings. Not sure about the sweet waffle menu, as adult options are just chocolate or chocolate. Nothing special. Children dessert menu. As a waffle specialist, customers would expect to provide more than just chocolate. More options for adults. Like peanut butter or pistachio sauce? The tables and seats were very close to each other. I felt like being stuffed into a little gap while eating. Not a comfortable cafe to chill. The service was good though. Bought a pain au chocolat as take away. It's £4.50, weighed 149g. Impressive for its size. Good value. It tastes flakey and buttery. The chocolate fillings were not a lot, just enough. It's not overly sweet, but not too much. The pastry reminds me of EL&N. Just without the creative fillings of EL&N......

A great place to go for lunch in Saffron Walden. We went for the Smoked Salmon & Egg Waffle and the Avocado Smash, both on sourdough toast. For drinks, we went for a Latte and a Mocha which were presented in typical Barista style. The scrambled eggs were fluffy and naturally went well with the fresh smoked salmon, and the avocado was smooth and flavourable, yet was not overpowered by the feta. This combination is a favourite of mine and I always like it when places get avocado right. The garnishes brought out the best of the flavours in both savoury dishes, and we were not disappointed. I just wish I went for a waffle base after seeing it at the table next to us, but maybe one for next time!

After moving to Saffron Walden 10 months ago, I really wanted to find a sense of community and somewhere I could feel comfortable and relaxed, and Waffle and Coffee has been just that!

Not only is the cafe itself beautifully decorated, comfortable and ambient but the staff are all so welcoming, friendly, attentive and easy to talk to, always asking how my day has been/how I'm doing. Wanted to give a mention to Tash, who was the first person I had a conversation with after starting to visit more regularly and, being a bit of a shy person, I appreciated being able to build a rapport and feel like I was part of the Waffle and Coffee community! The owner Ana is lovely too!

The food is always delicious and well presented, my favourite being the chicken waffle (heavenly) and the kids love the croiffles (shoutout to John the chef who is amazing with the kids and always makes the best food), and the menu has something for everyone whether you're a sweet or savoury person! It's my go to place for a good coffee in Saffron Walden as well, delicious everytime!

They also do other events/clubs, like their supper club and waffle+walk, which again are nice personal touches and bring a sense of community (think you can find more about these on their instagram or website).

Highly recommend to anyone looking for a good spot for some good vibes and great...

I had been looking forward to the change of menu for a while and was very excited to be told that they offer gluten free waffles (I am coeliac) but was instantly brought back down to earth when they said that they are unfortubately not suitable for coeliacs as they are cooked in the same waffle machine as the regular batter. This seems entirely pointless as anyone with an intolerance to gluten would not be able to eat them? I had actually ordered a gf waffle on a separate occasion before the refurbishment and I wasn’t told that they were not suitable for coeliacs at that point. The waffle was really great and I had hoped to try more from their menu after that. This time I ended up with a coffee and gf brownie. The coffee was lovely and the brownie was also quite delicious. Our waitress was a superstar and very helpful and smiley and the overall atmosphere is inviting (they had a great playlist going when I was there). It’s a cool place but the vibes were tainted slightly by my disappointment. If the waffles are ever made coeliac friendly then I will be in every weekend,...
