Took my PS5 in for disc drive repair on Saturday, March 1st. I was told that it would be ready by Tuesday or Wednesday. When I called on Tuesday, I was told Wednesday or Thursday. I was finally called on Friday (3/7) that they were working on it and would be ready near close. However, due to travel on my part, I was unable to pick it up until the following Wednesday (3/12).
That Friday evening around 7:45, I got an alert that I was online and playing Marvel Rivals (non-disced game). Took screenshots and had some friends try to get them play/join parties with them to see who it was. They got off after about 30 minutes of being spammed.
When I went to pick it up, I asked if they did any play testing on the device and he said no, because they have a 90 day warranty. I showed him the screenshots of someone playing Marvel Rivals from 7:45-8:15 PM on Friday while it was in the shop. He said it wasn’t him, and changed his story that they do have to do play testing. So, obviously caught him in a lie.
When I pointed out his lie and that the I brought it in to have the disc drive fixed and replaced and wasn’t expecting to see him or any of his staff playing a downloaded game, he tried to gaslight me that anyone who brings these things in expects them to be play tested while spouting off jargon of thermal paste and heat sinks, etc. He began comparing it to car repair and test driving, but when you bring a car in for AC repair, you don’t expect the mechanic to burn rubber.
Without a leg to stand on, he proceeded to ask why did it matter anyway? Because I have my credit card attached to the game store and PSN! And, you were expected to repair the disc drive, not mess around on my games.
I kept poking holes in his story, pointing out his circular logic/gaslighting, and the best he could was offer $20 off…
Admit you lied, played the game, and got caught.
UPDATE: Got home to see if things were working - they are. However, there was a question mark on the splash screen indicating an unreadable disc - I did not send it with a disc in the drive. Hit eject, and an upside down Pan’s Labyrinth DVD came out (one of my favorites, but I don’t own it…; I had already tried a DVD to see if that part of the drive worked, it did, just not Blu-rays or game discs).
He went 50/50 on two games of Marvel Rivals, not exactly adding to my trophies! I also wonder if he uses a Netgear router at work, because I know two of those networks, but not the top one…
At least I’ve got a good movie to kick back and watch tonight!
Update 2: The owner’s response is full of lies and continued gaslighting. I was never rude to any of his employees. I even thanked them for holding on to the console over the weekend due to my schedule. It wasn’t until I was lied to that I changed my tone.
Their response to poor reviews shows a pattern of behavior. I do hope that if you choose to use them for your repair needs you have a better experience than me, and I hope that you aren’t lied to and...
Read more(UPDATE due to CPR Repair being bad even at responces. My repair was started on Dec 19th 2022. In February, I called up for an update and they said it was fixed. I came in, was in the process of paying 199.99 for the repair. I got told the repair was for the different ps5 owner that he confused me with on the phone even as I gave my name. But since I paid for a repair that wasn't mine. The repair had to re-entered. Money refunded, or not finalized. That is why they don't remember this started in Dec. 2022. So another wasted trip of many to come till this review.) I waited 13 months before giving a review. Note that this is for console repair. Not cell phone. By far the worse experience I've ever had with any buisness in Abilene. Dec 19th 2022. Surge takes out all my things. I go to this store to have the ps5 repaired by a employee named Ray. Charged me 40.00 for just dropping it off. Gave them my number and waited. I called bi-weekly for updates but Ray was only there for small hours only a few days each week. Ray never called to update. THIRTEEN MONTHS LATER AND STILL NO CALL. I finally had to pick it up and it was trashed. Black ink all over the console..... Avoid this store unless you want a screen cover...
