This place caters to the trades. If you don't know what you're doing and what you need, you're usually not going to get much in the way of help although I've seen otherwise on occasion. You can say that's unacceptable, but it seems to be their business model and it works for them. They've been there for at least the 30 years I've been in the area.
I'm not a tradesman, but I know enough about plumbing and electrical to say "I need two single gang old work boxes" or whatever close enough to what an electrician or plumber would say to pass. I don't go there a lot, but many of the people recognize me and are friendly and helpful. Prices are not out of line, it's often worth it to save a trip to Home Depot or Lowes, and they have things big box stores...
