Svenfish Fish Market — Local services in Acton

We have had fairly good success with the Captain’s Choice small subscription. The fish is very fresh and is better than what you can get in most grocery stores.

However, I have had a negative experience with their customer service. We ordered and paid for a fresh, whole side of salmon for Easter. When it came time for pickup, I was told they did not have what I had ordered and the only comparable thing that would satisfy our needs was a large piece of frozen salmon which, when properly cooked, was mushy and not very appetizing.

I subsequently wrote them an email saying I would have appreciated a little more communication around the availability of the salmon I had ordered for this special occasion. I never heard back. I wrote a review on their site telling people that perhaps they should inquire about the availability of this product when they order it. They did not publish it.

Sometime buying at the supermarket or even a local fish store, the fish is not real fresh. Svenfish seems to pay attention to the idea of fresh fish. Not only do they have good fish, I look for specialty items like Cod cheeks, which I love cooking with (Shhh keep it a secret they get them occasionally). Excellent quality fresh salmon that I’ve been routinely getting each week for well over a year. Delivered to a market about 20 minutes from us. Met the delivery person a few times, very impressed with his caring attitude. A suggested improvement would be to the text/email delivery notification process.
