The builder of our new house, like many builders around here, used Builder’s Source for sourcing and installing all the included appliances (GE Profile: electric induction range, dishwasher, microwave & refrigerator). We discovered that our “new” refrigerator had been a floor model and the first day we used it the door shelves fell to the ground (shelves were broken upon installation). A technician came and replaced them.
After approximately 2 months of light use, our microwave malfunctioned (would not turn off and the door was unable to be opened). We unplugged it immediately due to fire hazard concerns. After waiting for ordered parts for several weeks the technician fixed the microwave. Online reviews of GE Profile appliances warn that the same replaced parts often break the same way 4 & 5 times. I asked the company sales department rep to take the microwave back and give us credit toward a more expensive and robust microwave from them (in the ballpark of $1700) – they refused to make any kind of accommodation, not even a discount.
Next our range broke. Two burners started to make a buzzing sound and when we tried to use two at the same time as our oven, it tripped the breaker. The technician ordered parts from China and we have been without a range since June (it is August now). Any time we try to use the range or the oven, it trips the breaker. Virtually unusable during this time when COVID restrictions make eating out a very unlikely option. Online reviews say this is also a common issue.
We have come to the conclusion that Builder’s source sells products that are known to be defective/poor quality. They have installed floor model appliances with broken parts and passed them off as new. They were not willing to compromise or slightly compensate for any of the defects other than to fix them – often in a timeframe that leaves us without the use of the appliance for months.
However, I will say that we have been very pleased with the technician. Frances has been efficient and professional during each visit. It is sad that the products are of such poor quality and the company itself is not willing to make things right beyond the limited stipulations in the 1...
Read moreOrdered a dishwasher early July 2024. Delivery was quickly set up the following week. Unfortunately, this is the last good thing that happened in the transaction. The delivery crew came very late in the day and never checked in with an approximate time until I called. They ended up showing up 2 hours earlier than the front of the estimate which was better than 7pm in the evening. While attempting to shut the water valve under the sink, the installer used way too much force when he noticed the valve had a problem as he unscrewed the hose from the valve. At this point I was watching him, and he was applying way too much force to a tiny shut off valve. This shattered the bottom washer in the valve. He was not working with a catch pan or a towel, so he soaked the cabinet wood under the sink and onto the sub floor. After I turned off the main water for the house and depressurized so there was no leak through the valve, he was going to leave the house and not hook up the dishwasher leaving a home with no ability to repressurize the water system. After some discussion he agreed to connect the hose since it shouldn't hurt the new dishwasher, and we could repressurize the home water system. He did not flush the line into a pan to check for debris. Well, the debris plugged the hot side of a $400 touchless faucet less than 2 years old. After 5 hours of work, a new faucet, and replacing the valve by myself, most of the damage was repaired. This is where it gets worse. After contacting sales, they offered a 3-year warranty on the new dishwasher and pushed me off to the service managers. After multiple attempts to contact them, they have not returned on e-mail or phone call. We have delt with them many times and recommended this business to others over 18 years. Not sure what is going on, but this is not the same business (service side) it was just a few years back on another transaction. If you break something, own up to it and see what you can do to make it right. Update - After over 2 weeks from the install, phone calls were finally returned and at least the install fee was refunded for all...
Read moreI really debated what star rating to give. The initial delivery and sales went really well and everyone was easy to work with. We thought the installation would be fairly straightforward, so we decided we would do it on our own. We ordered a gas unit with an LV conversion kit for propane.
My issue comes when we admitted defeat trying to install the dryer unit and had to call back. Communication fell apart. I paid $150 to have them come out to install the units (which i was more than happy to do), when I had called to set it up, I was promised my sales person, Dan, would be calling me to discuss since he was in with another customer at that point, which he never did. I ended up having to call back the day before my installation to even confirm I was actually on the schedule. When they arrived they were confused as to what needed to happen and then realized they weren't able to do it because they don't do conversions to propane. The fact that I had to take a day off work, and they didn't even bother to see what I had ordered to determine what needed to be done to the unit is frustrating. I specifically called Builders Source instead of someone else because they had all the information they needed since they sold us the units, to get it installed.
When I spoke to Dan again frustrated that I had wasted a day, he basically passed the blame along saying he wasn't sure why they weren't aware of what needed to be done because he wasn't the one who had spoken to me.
The lack of communication or customer care after the appliances were delivered is very...
