I really liked this place. We were trying to support a local business instead of a big company. We went Friday and it was great! We tried various different items and liked them all! We especially loved the dark chocolate peanut butter cups. They are creamy and not bitter or overly sweet. We also loved the Cortez bar. It was knock your socks off good. So we went back yesterday. We bought more peanut butter cups as well as 2 boxed sets of Cortez bars and a few other things. Over a two day span we spent over $107 there. We tried the Cortez bars today. They are nothing like the smaller version we bought the day before. These are almost exclusively like chewy caramels. It’s a mouth full of sweet mush. The other bars were a thick layer of dark chocolate with crunchy bits with a very very thin layer of carmel then a pretty thick layer of creamy milk chocolate. I actually had to get a knife and cut out all the extra caramel because it was overwhelming. I called the store to just talk to someone about how disappointing that is because seriously that’s a lot of money to spend for candy that bad. It reminded me of Russell Stover. The lady who answered the phone was very rude. She responded by telling me there was nothing she could do and had a bad attitude I could call back on Tuesday to speak to the owner. I certainly will. Just wow.
Update I called and spoke to the owner and he was a condescending jerk. I was very kind and respectful to him but he basically said my opinion doesn’t matter and I don’t know what I’m talking about. He said he didn’t want to offer me my money back just because I didn’t like something. I told him that wasn’t what I wanted I had originally called just to talk to someone about how disappointed we were but I’d called back today because the lady I originally spoke to was so rude. Well he is rude to. It was like trying to have an adult conversation with a pouting 6 year old. He talked over me and cut me off and implied I’m just too stupid to know good chocolate. The chocolate here really is exquisite but as another bad review said I don’t like giving my money to...
Read moreSadly, we have transitioned away from being Theobroma customers. They have good chocolates, but along with the good chocolates their prices are very high. We have not minded too much, as we purchased their chocolates primarily for special occasions or for gifts.
However, Theobroma has embraced the "Tip ME" movement on their point of sale terminal.
Big nope from us.
If we engage with a vendor for a traditional service in which the compensation for that service person depends on tipping, such as restaurant waitperson, or delivery or transportation, we will tip you.
At the price they are charging for chocolates, if their staff is not being compensated fairly... then that is on the management. Not the customer. I have not noticed a reduction in price for their products since the POS terminals started asking for tips.
I'm sure Theobroma won't miss our business. Likewise, we have other chocolatiers to patronize and...
Read moreI am highly disappointed with the service I received shortly after Christmas. While your products are amazing your staff needs some fine tuning as well as customer service training. My business spends many $1,000's of dollars at your store and this was the first time the service was way less than par. I needed 1 item as I wanted to buy 10 items and you had 9 on hand. The girl told me that there would be NO WAY I could get one more and would have to wait until Monday! This day was Saturday December 26th. I mean I guess I have to deal with that but the part that REALLY got me is that she was dressed in a bare midriff top and old gray sweat pants. I mean really, who goes to work dressed like that? I am disappointed at the service as well as the appearance of...
