China Garden Restaurant — Restaurant in Albuquerque

Good Chinese food is something I cherish wholeheartedly, but China Garden misses that mark by quite a lot.

First time I went here, I got the sweet and sour pork. Without the sauce, It was quite unremarkable in flavor and quite greasy.

Second time I got the honey chicken. The honey sauce's flavor was quite good, as it was a straightforward honey sauce. However, there was legit more batter than chicken in each nugget! I could peel it off like you could peel off dead skin from a formerly blistering sunburn! I also find it comical that one of the dishes I could recommend is the "sesame chicken with diced chicken and lots of breading" because that is exactly what they did to the honey chicken! The final result flavor-wise was something as greasy as Julian from Trailer Park Boys! Also, talk about a shortcut!

However, China Garden does have a couple of saving graces.

First, the cost of a takeout dinner here isn't going to break the bank. With tip and tax, the honey chicken with white rice set me back $13.10. In 2023, that isn't bad at all!

Second, The pork fried rice here is very good! All the flavors that go into it are nice and balanced, and I could see myself coming back for that if I were craving it.

That said, if you go to China Garden, then you may have an experience greater than the conglomerate 3 star experience I had provided you STAY FAR AWAY from the deep...

I have not tried take out. i don't order for a large amount of people. I had adhd, i don't have much money, i appreciate quality foods, this has been great. I'm sort of a creature of habit with my Chinese in that i always order the same thing, with any Chinese restaurants. It's a humble environment if you're looking for quiet and simple, not a busy traffic area either. plus when you time it right you can treat yourself with a nice humble NM sunset at this location, back to the food, depending on your flavor experience, our expectations, the fried rice was good, bits of pork, egg, nothing fancy and tasty, with soy sauce, egg roll is the best, sweet and sour chicken sauce was tangy, sweet, chicken was hot with its batter, all served fresh. i think take out is a hit and miss, but dining in is better. the wait staff was young, helpful, attentive and kind. i go when i got time to spare, take my time eating as it's not loud or busy, if you want a place to catch a breath or catch up on phone stuff or kill time..besides smith's is a few steps away and wild bird seeds are near by or grab a pizza to go who's next door...very convenient place for shopping. to...

DO NOT ORDER HERE IF YOU HAVE ANY ALLERGIES. Based on the ineptitude I dealt with today, they can’t be trusted to communicate and be safe. The staff is uninformed and unclear. We had previously used this place as one where they did not have cross contamination from peanuts due to a severe peanut allergy in our family. It was always a lady who answered. We called today and a young male answered who was non committal and generally ambivalent about answering whether they could avoid cross contamination. He finally said they could, but then called back 10 minutes later to say that they couldn’t. I asked why if they had been safe before and he said “I dunno, I guess they use peanut oil or something. I don’t actually know. You can talk to them if you want” so the kitchen got on and said they were too busy to avoid cross contamination at the moment so they need to cancel the order. I’ve ordered from there when it’s busy before, and now wondering if I put our person with peanut allergies at risk given their poor communication and lack of clarity here. Will...
