Stopped by the shop this afternoon to look for Christmas gifts for my family, picked up a cute magnet for my car, and was immediately asked by the cashier if he could “hold it for me” while I kept shopping. Such a gentleman, but I prefer when the businesses I frequent don’t assume I look like a shoplifter.
Update: in the future, if you would like some advice on how to treat your potential customers, if you are concerned that a customer looks like a threat, you could ask her if you can help her find something, instead of just implying that you would like her to keep your products at the counter so the cashier can keep an eye on them. Or share your assistance and excellent customer service to other customers in the store so that it does not appear directed at just one person.
