Food Lion — Local services in Americus

I have shopped here for a long time. I like the products, and the prices are fairly reasonable. And they have the selection I like. Now the disappointing part. First off, TRAIN your staff on how to bag groceries properly. It’s not rocket science. You DON’T bag things with bread or vegetables that will damage the product. You DON’T bag chemicals with food ( even though they are in separate packages). The manager is a useless employee. There have been several occasions where I personally protected some customers from people who are in the store begging people for money and other things. Had to protect some customers in the parking lot from a big bulldog that the owner was letting run loose in the parking lot and then begging people for money. I’m a grown man who is a veteran who is not scared of any of this. But there are a lot of older customers who would be intimidated by these situations. And the so called manager just hid in the office and did nothing. Also maybe a 1/3rd of the staff has attitude problems. If you don’t want/like your job, then find something else. I work very hard for my money, and customer service is pretty nonexistent. This place has gone way downhill in the last year. Today, the produce section was filled with rotten fruit and vegetables in both the dry and refrigerated sections. Another customer even commented to me that she had noticed a decline in their quality as well and will not be shopping there once she gets her garden going. No way I am paying $2.28 a pound for fermented, rotten green grapes. Not in this economy. Terrible lines, rude employees. Astronomical prices. These corporations are UNHINGED.

I will literally be driving to Albany moving forward to grocery shop. I stopped shopping at the Americus Walmart because of the same issues and now I will ditch Food Lion too. Do better. Your store...

I don't like leaving poor reviews, but I just need to get this off my chest. WHY does this grocery store advertise specials and then NEVER have them on the shelves when I get there? I live fifteen miles away, so this isn't "right down the road" for me. It's a planned trip. It's the rule rather than the exception that I WON'T find what I went for just about every single time. I went twice this week to pick up a couple of things. They didn't have them, so do I go a THIRD time and hope it's not another wasted trip? Probably not.
