My husband and I have been going to the Iowa Clinic in Ankeny for about three years. We like our doctors ok and have not had any real complaints until recently. With the situation with the economy my husband and I have had some difficulty paying our medical bills. We called the billing office to ask for forms to apply for financial assitance. We do not qualify for state assistance. The other medical providers we conduct business with suggested this as they helped us complete their forms and we have been approved everywhere but the Iowa clinic. I called this afternoon to have the forms mailed to us for the second time because I was told if I was missing one piece of information I would be immediately denied. Wtih Covid it was compliecated to get a form from my husbands employer. Now the Iowa clinic requires almost double the amount of information as the other two places we have been approved for assistance at. I quote the cutomer service associate I just spoke with, "the Iowa Clinic has different guidelines". So instead of being able to confirm my income from our tax returns, and no not just the 1040 itself, but the ENTIRE tax return including the forms for our earned income credit, two months worth of bank statements and three most recent pay check stubs. Hmmm, after reading previous reviews about the Iowa clinic's refusal to see people on medicaid in the walk in clinic, I am thinking we may need to look for new doctors. I don't know how the masses feel about these policies and I can only speak to my personal experiences but I don't feel good giving my money to an organization that obviously in my opinion has some biases and flatly have made it very difficult to obtain assistance for working families...
Read moreI was seen in Urgent Care on Saturday and had a Covid test done before noon. I was instructed by the Dr. to start an antibiotic and Prednisone ONLY after receiving negative Covid results. Covid test results would be back in 24-48 hours. I called Urgent Care at 3 pm on Monday to get my results. I was transferred to Medical Records. Medical Records then transferred me back to Urgent Care. Of course I got a different receptionist at Urgent Care who told me that the only thing she could do was have the nurse call me. At 6 pm, I got an email indicating an update to my online medical chart. I looked and the only update to the Covid test was "no results". I called Urgent Care at 615 pm and the receptionist looked at my results and told me it was negative. (Since when are receptionists giving out test results?) I asked her why the results were not in my online chart? I was told that Urgent Care results are not posted to the health portal. I asked why not? She told me I had to talk to IT. So, I physically drove to Urgent Care to get a copy of my results. I asked again why I could not access my test results online and I was told again that Urgent Care results were not posted there. I then drove to the pharmacy to pick up my antibiotics. When I got home I received an email with an update to my health portal. After 54 hours, the test results were posted to my online chart. This whole situation was unnecessary. Does anyone know what is going on? No consistency. I have no problem with the Dr. but the run around I received trying to get my test results so I could start my antibiotic was totally unnecessary, rude and...
Read moreEDIT** The Iowa Clinic responded that this doctor does not work for them, however, I received a bill for urgent care at The Iowa Clinic Ankeny Campus, and the dr listed on the bill was Bohlender. If she doesn’t work for the Iowa Clinic, why are they sending me a bill for her services???
I have never had a negative experience here until April 2023. I saw Dr Bohlender at urgent care because I injured my finger. She barely looked at my finger (it was extremely swollen and black and blue). She acted like I was wasting her time and said nothing was wrong with my finger. When I objected to that, she asked, “Well, do you want an ace wrap or do you want it buddy taped?” She acted like I was a child seeking a bandaid. Even my 10 year old, who came with me, asked me why she didn’t want to help me. I called patient relations, and explained that not only did she treat me rudely, but she completely misdiagnosed me (I followed up with another urgent care facility, where I was diagnosed with a torn ligament that required surgery to repair). I didn’t feel I should have to pay for my visit, since I received NO treatment from her AND she delayed treatment of the injury. She said she would pass this along to the head of urgent care, who would speak to the doctor. A week later, I received a call saying I still had to pay because the bill was for “diagnosing” me. I requested a call from the head of urgent care and/or the doctor, and never heard back. I am thoroughly disgusted with this, and will never use the Iowa Clinic for...
