Update (after a year of membership):
The services at IV nutrition continue to be one of the biggest impacts on my recovery from chronic illness. I use a Whoop device to follow how different health interventions impact my HRV and recovery score overtime. This helps me prioritize certain interventions over others, because having a chronic illness is $$$. Over and over again, I’ve been blown away by how much better my HRV and recovery scores are during periods where I utilize their services vs. periods where I was not able to. Nutrition continues to be one of the largest drivers of higher HRV for me (for those familiar with the measure, that was an increase of avg hrv from 23 to 70 over time).
Some of the most helpful premade bags for me have been (all of this below is not medical advice and based off my own experiences and personal research for my own medical situations):
Stress Stopper: I am neurodivergent and struggle with PMDD and IBS-D. Some of the latest research suggests this could be due to a lack of sensitivity for GABA in the brain, especially during the luteal phase (I’m simplifying greatly, for brevity). It’s also possible that neurodiverse individuals already have lower baseline GABA. This IV contains some of the essential nutrients your body needs for the production of GABA. This has been an absolute game changer for me with social anxiety that comes along with my neurodiversity, and the “body” anxiety that comes with the luteal phase in PMDD. (Key research I found helpful in this | PMID: 32435664 | PMID: 22841562 | PMID: 34362210)
Repair and Build: I have chronic pain that likely stems from a connective tissue disorder, and this IV seems to really help with that. It’s pretty similar to the other bag, with less magnesium and a couple different amino acids. As a bonus, it made my nails and hair grow out strong for the first time in years. Helps with nausea (likely due to POTS) as well.
Belly Buster: L-carnitine and lipotropics were the first thing that touched my chronic fatigue from long COVID, and helped ease my body back into regular exercise after being bed bound. If you have something similar, might be worth a try! There’s some interesting research out there with l-carnitine and post COVID fatigue (PMID: 34925826).
These are the things that worked best for my body, and my body’s starting point. Everyone starts at a different point, with different nutritional deficiencies and other health issues, so what helps each individual is somewhat unique. Thought I’d add my experience here in case you have a similar one.
For fun: photo of my recovery score the morning after receiving a Stress Stopper bag.
—- Being an individual on a chronic health journey, I have been to several IV clinics and other medical facilities throughout the years. I can tell you hands down this clinic has the safest procedures, and the individualized care you receive is next to none. The staff is incredibly versed on the latest research surrounding IV therapy, and they are able to customize every bag which means you really get the care you individually need (not a one size fits all approach found in other clinics). If it’s your first time, they walk you through everything so there’s absolutely nothing to fear! Highly, highly recommend regardless of your individual...
Read moreEdit to add: My husband has never had a bad interaction with any other employee at this location. He likes them all.
I don’t want to leave this review but the way my husband was just treated by a newer employee at IV Nutrition in Ankeny is ridiculous, uncalled for, and discriminatory! My husband (who happens to be African American) was discussing an issue relating to his account with the employee. There was a discrepancy between what he was told he signed up for and what was being said to him today at his appointment. My husband explained to her why he disagreed and requested to speak to the manager. Instead of validating his point of view and getting the manager on the phone, she threatened to CALL THE COPS on him!!! Call the cops? My husband did not get irate with her, he did not threaten her, nor did he act in any manner that would cause her to fear for her safety….. but you want to call the police because a black man sounds irritated? How is that supposed to make him feel? The manager, through said employee, let my husband know she would call him when she got in the store but added that she “backs her employees 100%”. How about 1- Get on the phone with him and not speak through your employee, and 2- Teach your employees how to have difficult conversations in a...
Read moreI had my second visit here on 10/3. Initally, I came here over a year ago because of the way my body reacts to covid. I don't have signs of sickness in the typical sense but instead my body dehydrates slowly over time. Coming here to help combat that (flooding my system is the only way to reverse it. Drinking water and electrolytes isnt enough on its own.) has been such a pleasant experience. Since it had been so long, and I recently had the flu, I felt it was time to go back. I was feeling a bit off and foggy and knew it could only help. I was able to meet the owner this visit and she is so sweet and helpful. They have a ton of options to choose from that can help a wide range of needs and she took the time to find out what my needs were to get the most out of my time there. She made sure I was comfortable and has a wonderful energy. They had a lot going on when I was there but you would never know it with how much you're made to feel like a priority. This has definitely become my go to place to help with recovery for many reasons. In my case, I chose the Inner Immune option thats listed on the Hydration...
