Flame Cantina — Restaurant in Ankeny

I wrote a review on the DSM Food lovers FACEBOOK page and im not sure I will top that review here. Judging by the 60+ comments I received back, everyone felt the same the FLAME CANTINA is literally FIRE.

We had the Chips and Trio (salsa,queso, guac), the Mexican French dip, and the chicken quesadilla. All of the food was amazing. Top notch, and very flavorful.

Our food/service/experience was 10/10. I want to give it to the cooks for making an amazing meal, the management for making sure the service and the cooks are following the orders and rules for such great success, and the servers for truly serving. First off, the service and waitresses are very kind. The hostess is very kind, and sat me immediately.

But that’s all I have good to say. Truly don’t know how this is so highly rated. This was my first time here on February 24th, 2025, in the evening. I ordered the asada fajitas. They were SO SALTY.

I’m not even close to low tolerant of sodium, but the steak and veggies were just so incredibly salty, that I forced it all down, so the food and money wasn’t wasted. The steak was quite bland, so I think they rely on over salting. They definitely need to work on the food.

I figured I’d give it a try, but once is enough. I will certainly stick to Cazador, as it is fantastic every time, for the same pricing. Thank you to the kindness of the servers and hostess. As they were the only ones keeping this...

Visited Ankeny for less than 24 hours and chose the closest Mexican restaurant to our Airbnb. We had no idea it would end up being some of the BEST Mexican food we’ve had in the Midwest to date! And my family is huge on food Mexican food. I’d recommend this spot to anyone. I hope they open a franchise option to get more around the Midwest. Everything was perfect. We got birria tacos, taquitos, burrito bowls and the chips, salsa, queso and guac. I have literally zero complaints. The margaritas were also absolutely perfect. Sandra and Arturo were so kind and even brought free churros for us. They were too good! I just can’t say enough good things. We even went back the next morning for brunch and we’re still amazed. The breakfast tacos and French roast truly were perfect. I’ll be back anytime...
